I had a facelift one on a Y reg, I wasnt keen on it, and I've always wanted one, I dont know whether its cause mine was quite an old one? I just found it dead rattly and very uncomfy, it felt tiny and I'm only 5ft10. Was a very quick car though, would probably have another one again but would have to be a newer 182 I think.
Edit: Mine was flame red...

Was it you that bought a Y reg flame red one not long ago and sold it again a very short while after?
I test drove a ph1 172 on a w reg and it felt really good. Driving position is completely different to my low slung corsa seats as theyre quite high and flat

beaten to it. Thought it was you. That was a VERY early ph2 model as they still made alot of ph1's on the Y reg

I was waiting for everybody to say how good they were, they must still be at work.
I had a 172, not an early one.
Rattled, clutch is rubbish, gearbox is rubbish, seating position is rubbish, steering wheels peel like they have aids, the engine has to be worked very hard to get anywhere and tbh isn't that fast when it does get going.
They go round corners ok and they are quite well specced I thought but not much going for them apart from that.

My Corsa C was the worst for rattles even over the catless straight through exhaust i could still hear them. Pug has a couple but this has done mega miles so expected. I just keep finding things to tighten up/use silicone on
Going from a big car into something small again is going to take some getting used to imo.

monaco blue is def the best colour but quite rare. The do rattle abit and the seating is shit but iv done 70k in 4 years it's never (touch wood) broken down and I look forward every day to driving it. Shame it's going up for sale

I've got a 182, it's a great car, the seating position is a bit high, but you get used to it. The handling (while difficult to believe) is miles better than my corsa ever was.
Couple things are badly made/designed though (but what car hasnt got flaws at that price). Eg: the leather on the steering wheels melt, the fuel lines have plastic clips holding them onto the rail, not a metal threaded union like the corsa has.

so basically with a change of front seats, steering wheel you would eliminate the 2 major interior problems

the problem is they are funky little drive but crabby renualt clio with crap build quality and rubbish interior that fall apart. and like all clios the driving position isn't great.

this is my old one:

swapped it for my old c20let, fantastic little car and i loved every min of it! im actually in the process of trying to get it back.
it was cammed and remapped full exhaust system and filter etc. made 191 on the rollers, i put a carbon fibre bonnet on it too which was lush lol, it handled fantastically and didnt make any rattles etc like mentioned above. only thing that took some getting used to was the clutch pedal!
*edit* wtf is that bloke doing in the background of the pic????

Have had a phase 1 clio 172 since 2004 bought it when it was 3 years old. Cant fault it it is the best car i have and will never sell it. I also have 3 corsa's 2 are xe's 1 is a let and a scooby WRX STi. I would pick my 172 over any of these.

all french sporty cars rattle its as the french would put it.. gives the car character.. plus if it doesnt rattle then it isnt going to be as quick as one that does.
as stated before.. crappy interior, crappy build quality and crappy gearboxes. i think therer only redeaming feature is that they are quite good round the twistys and fairly nippy.. would feel more fun to drive with a few more ponys under the bonnet tho
