Really interesting read why the saab conversion could be worth it, but then again i dont know the hassle it entails for it to work perfect like the let in a corsa :s

im going to measure this up as if it will fit im going to stick one in a corsa or something at some point. just there a tight sqeeze in the orginal car so into a corsa it maybe impossible.
then theres the weight way over 200kgs for the engine and box!

when i took my c20let out of my calibra to go into my corsa, the guy who bought the cally from me is fitting a saab 2.3 turbo into it and is having loads of trouble.
none of the mounts are the same either

im looking to do a 2.3 saab in a corsa
fazza the 2.3 saab is an 2.0 ecotec in disguise same manifolds etc but the mounts are slightly different

the ecotec and saab lumps couldn't be more different.
the only similarity is the share the same bellhousing bolt pattern.
the calibra/cav conversion should be fairly simple as the have the same chassis legs, bulkhead, steering rack and similar subframe and front suspension to the saab 900/9-3 models. the mounts are totaly different though.

there not the same.
he has had to do quite abit of cutting to the chassis legs to get it to fit

Isn't one a high pressure engine, and the other low pressure?
think its the 2.0 thats LP, and the 2.3 that HP.
Heard a rumour that its better to start witht he 170bhp 2.0 tubby as its no-where near its limit and can be tuned to a high state without as much ££ being spent. Where-as the 2.3 is already highly tuned (but low powered) and can't really go much further without serious work (pistons etc....)

The 2.0 and 2.3 engines both come with varying turbos, the 2.0HOT would probably be the best place to start with.
A remap gets about 240bhp then after that you can start looking at bigger turbos etc.
The 250bhp 2.3 turbo is already running fairly tuned.

the 2.0 and 2.3 are exactly the same apart from the 2.3 has diferrent rods, pistons and crank to increase the capacity.
the 2.3 is safe to around 400bhp but has been taken upto 600bhp without touching the internals. the 2.0 generaly is considered a little weaker as the lack of capicity means you have to rev more for the same power but still good for silly power.
theres loads of variations of each engine though as with all cars.
it should be a pretty staright fit if the donour car is a 900/9-3 if its a 9000 (the only car to get the 2.3) then the engine is inclinded along with the gearbox, it has different timing covers aux pulleys etc and would be a pitta to fit as this makes it wider than the 2.0.
all the parts are interchangable though.
for that reasons it would be easier to use a 2.0 900 base car.
i need to measure up any how as the height is the biggest issue.
all the later hot engines are crap as gm got involved and weaked the pistons massively they go pop around 300bhp, but with just forged pistons are good for about 500bhp. the heads flow slightly better on the later engines also but the valve springs are a little weaker so you cant rev too high say 7000rpm absolute max. the solid build of the earlier engines outways the slight performance benifit of the later engine imho.

The 9-3 and 9'5 both have the 2.3

true they do but they have the later engine, the only 9-3 to get the 2.3 was the viggen which is rare and both are expensive cars to start with. also they have hydraulic clutches where as the older 900 has a cable clutch so easier to match up to a corsa.
the best engine saab made was the b234r which is only found in 9000 aeros and very late anniversary models.
