on my way to work this morning i reversed off the kerb outside my house and went straight into the front of my neighbours sisters car an 06 vw eos. all the alarms went off so they came out and had a look the only damage i can see is a bit of paints come of the passenger corner and a small clipped in piece has fallen out, a lot of the marks are dirt from my car. Ideally i dont want to go through the insurance as i already have 1 claim and 3 points so i dont want to add even more cost to my insurance. Ive spoken to them and theyve agreed to get it done outside the insurance but theyre going to contact their insurance and let them know whats happened and theyre going to do it outside of the insurance. they say theyll get a quote from vw for the damage and give it to me to see what i want to do i reckon theyll end up hetting a new bumper god knows what that will cost

i hate cars

When I accidently clipped someone, it got done outside the insurance and it cost me 111 pounds for a new bumper for a peugeot 307 estate thingy from a proper peueot garage - not bad a price considering if it had gone through insurance it would have cost me no claims etc

get a quote from a chips away guy (or someone like that company). they are usually a lot cheaper and when a woman hit my front wing it was either going to be ££££'s for a brand new wing in electric orange paint or £60 for the chipsaway guy to sort out.

Bugger - bit of a pain if they insist on only going through main dealer as it won't be the cheapest way!

Suggest that you will try to get quotes elsewhere for the work done and see if they will accept it

You might be lucky mate as some main dealers do use smart repairers

thanks for the advice, i think im going to see the quote first and then if i think its too high and shes trying to rip me off ill try and find a cheaper quote, i did say to her it could probably just be sprayed by a chips away guy but she wants to talk to her insurance first.

she did advise me to go on an advanced driving course though as this is the second bump ive had

UPDATE:

got the quote through last week from a vw garage £993.00

she sent through a copy of the quote she got and she said that was the only place she wanted to take it. if it doesnt need a new slam panel then itll be £300 cheaper which she'll refund me. but gonna have to hold out for a while before i lower my car now

the last time i had a crash and went through the insurance it rocketed up, and id rather get it out of the way than have to pay for it over the next few years when i want to get a better car. i know its a lot but i had the money anyway

seriously mate, go through insurance.

i have 2 non fault claims on my policy until june 2010 (elephant say 3 years after the incident you don't need to tell them any more) and they only put the policy up an extra 50-100 quid.

Its not the claim that pushes my policy up, its the lack of years no claims.
