Now my old man AND paul have S2000s, I cant help but feel il get a bit left behind on the track. I was always quicker than my dads elise when we were on the track together, granted he is a bit of a pussy. Now though I have had my eyes on a clio 172 for a long while. Anyone got any other ideas? M3 was thrown into the equation a while ago, still an option... Jeremy clarkson always has bigged up 944s, I could get an s2 for around the same price as a 172. I dont know much about them though, what do people think? Thanks.

Or if the thought of a rotary scares you, an MX5 with some power tweaks.

944 would be costly to fix, as would an M3 & at the age your talking it would need fixed now & then!!
172's well known for its track abilities, if I were you id get one of them. Its going to make a decent road car also unlike an old 944.
Will it go round a track quicker than S2k...............open to debate. Like you say if its a pussy driving the honda I would say yes.

MX5 was always an option also. Fad has always said good things about them too. They lack power as said but its the gay factor also that is such a put off.

I was always under the impression a 172 will have no chance against an s2000 on track. I know what you mean about the 944 now, just been reading people repair costs in there for sale ads. Major put off!

This doesn't look too gay:

And I've never known a hairdresser who drives one, whereas the woman who used to cut my hair had an S2K

The S2k's no track car under 5k or whatever Vtec Yo kicks in. I drove one last week & thought it was quite sluggish until the late power band.
It would probably take a skilled driver to keep it in that power band right round a track. I think a 172 would have a good chance. How lighter will it be too!?

Can't think of anything against that BMW to be honest.
I haven't driven one so couldn't compare it to the MX5, but I'd imagine it's heavier.
You could take passengers in the BMW though!

Butler, I know my 106 gti would go around castle combe than my s2000 will
FACT.
Just a lot easier to take a Good FWD car with LSD to the limit safely on track than a RWD car.

They really are sluggish - I was shocked how slow s2000's are... People over rate them / over hype them big style
Luckily I didn't buy mine for the performance alone.

There great cars Paul, I can see why people like them. But when your not in the power band it just doesnt feel like a fast car. I think youd need to work it hard to keep it going fast round a track. Who am I to say though ive never drove a car on a track!!

Maybe it's just my one?
You just press the accelerator and time the acceleration by a calender
I may be exagerating...
I just find the 1st and 2nd gear acceleration was far better in the gti, but in 3rd and 4th the s2000 is faster than my gti.
To be honest I don't know why I was expecting much more, I raced a s2000 in my 106 gti before I bought mine and I was faster to about 40-50, it was level to about 70-80 and then it started pulling away to about 110 mph but not by far.
I agree colin, I think s2000 will be hard work to keep buzzing on track... If it falls off vtec it literally takes forever to get back on, I under estimated this... my Gti was actually quite tractable with the cams, ok you needed it over 3.5k to really pull - but it wouldn't take long to get to 3.5k if say the revs had dropped to 2k, but with the s2000 if the revs drop to 3.5k you've got a good 5 second wait or so till you hit vtec again to get moving

you'd have to compete with the people off 106 owners
Technically I think some of them may just be planning to strip the parts off and sell the car standard to make a profit, but either way had several people saying they'll turn up imediately with cash - I've had to keep delaying them so I could buy the s2000.
Got several people viewing it tommorrow.
