The Meguiars G220 is highly recommended by a lot of people.

http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog/meguiars-g220-dual-action-polishing-machine-polish.html

It doesn't just rotate in a circle, its head oscillates randomly about a fixed point which reduces friction and heat, and therfore reduces the chance of burning the paint, or removing too much on one spot.

Or for less money, but the same idea...

I had the g220 for a weekend, I spent hours and hours over the 2 days and got nowhere.

I'm going for a cheap rotary next time.

I've been thinking about getting one of these, you don't recommend one then...

I'm certainly no pro, I gave up pretty quickly but for the effort I put in I got nothing at all out, could have done just as well by hand, certainly wasn't any paint correction.

A rotary will get better results quicker.

From what i've seen it's a lot more difficult to burn through paint than myths would suggest.

What is cost price Mike?

My brother is a professional detailer and he recommends it.

If you use it correctly and with the correct compounds, you should see good results.

Theyre probably good for polishing, but for paint correction ive always prefered using a straight forward rotary one.

i looked at the G220, but couldnt justify spending £135 on something non returnable it felt really light, which imo isnt a good thing becuase you then have to put more effort into the mopping etc.

Just out of curiosity, did you use a cutting pad such as this or a "mop" style head as seen on the rotary in the link in the 2nd post?

I don't get it, my angle grinder has a motor and makes what ever you attach turn round in a circular motion, also has variable speed.

The thread on them is M14 but i wouldnt sugest using one, the pads are designed to spin at about 4500 RPM where as a grinder spins at double that nearly trebble. also the polishers have a slow start to stop the polish flying everywhere

my grinder is awesome though it has a speed adjuster and takes about 10 seconds even to speed up to the lowest setting which is 4000RPM
