This just bedded in at 100k miles is rubbish, it's high mileage, it was always high mileage until very recently for some reason.

Possibly because diesels just keep going and going, like a duracell battery

So will most engines these days, they're still high mileage though.

Fair point, but aren't diesels better for lasting the duration?

old wives tale tbh.
Modern engines dont fall to bits after 100k, id be more worried about shocks, bushes, steering rack etc than the engines mileage.

at 100k the engine might be ok but things will go wrong, 100k will never be low mileage regardless of how strong the engine its self is.
i dont see how golfs hold their value, £2.5k and its over 10 years old on 100k+

Average for that age would be about 120k, so 101k is low for it's age.

They hold their value because they are a brilliant all rounder. Spacious, cheap to run, well built, economical and not the slowest car on the road either.
At 100k the suspension bushes and gearbox linkages might want replacing but cars are so much better built today 100k isnt a lot of miles for a car to do.
You get a 100k mk2 astra gte lined up next to a 3 year old astra vxr thats done 100k of motorway miles and i gurantee the vxr will be in better aesthetical and mechanical condition throughout. the new vxr will only look 3 years old yet the cav will look ready for the scrappy.

that does'nt make sense, and has no point
so the 3 year old vxr thats done 100k will look 3 years old
but the 15 year old astra/cav thats done 100k will be fucked
