Just thought people might not know there's this petition on the reduction of the national speed limit...
http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/noNSLreduction/
Doubt it'll have any effect, but worth signing and sending on to other people.

I hope not, ive signed it.. If they were so bothered about saving lives why not implament a strict no drink and drive policy?Surley that will save more lives and not cost half as much..

It won't even go ahead in the first place, why do people waste bandwidth with these petitions?
And I don't think it would at all Chris.
Drink drivers will still drink drive, the ones that are steaming and crash don't care about the limit in place do they.
It will just mean more people who either had a drink a full day ago or used mouthwash, or took some medicine will get done for nothing.

Well about 5 months ago, my whole 'county' degraded pretty much every national speed limit down to 50 mph and any 50 to 40!
http://www.buckscc.gov.uk/bcc/new_maps/index.jsp?contentid=-325368085
I have to go drive elsewhere to get my kicks these days or break the speed limit... I think people saying it'll never happen are nieve... Yes the average speed cameras everywhere may never happen - but having limits reduced gradually over say a year is quite possible.

They'd have to change all the signs, which would cost at least as much as they would make from people speeding.
Single carriageways 60, dual 70 is easy to remember, making certain roads certain speeds means changing the signs.
Would also take ages to do.

John they changed all the signs in my area, they're all nice and new.
I'd estimate we've had a good 200-300 + new signs recently.
I think they'd do it in stages, county by county or something... over 'years' - but it doesn't mean they wont do it.

If they said they were reducing the limit due to very bad roads, or types of known weather conditions, for example a road thats quite high which suffers from bad ice then fine, but to base it on saving lives when there are cheaper and more effective ways. To me changing the limit and placing average speed cameras is a way for them to make money... Thats all this is for... In my opinion that is

The country voted NO to going to war.
They never ever listen to these petitions anyway.
I can't see them listening to this one again either.
End of the day, our government does what they want without the publics opinion, hence why I feel we live in a dictatorship (buy not run by an individual).

So true - all the polls I've ever voted on have received a response along the lines of "we see your point but after careful consideration you're all wrong".
Meh, signed this one anyway.

They should get rid of the 'black stripe' sign and replace them with 60mph, and so on because there are too many f*cktards who don't know what it means anyway.

If you had bothered to read the proposal you'd see that they aren't just making national speed limit 50, they are changing some roads and leaving others.
So again, they'd have to change the signs and this would take a long time and cost a lot of money.

eerrmm, but NOT ALL national speed limit's are getting changed, so they would have to change the one's that are on the road's that are getting a reduced speed limit

who the retard now?

No they wouldn't....
Its a NATIONAL SPEED LIMIT speed thats being changed.
You still do 70mph on the dual carrageways/2 lane roads.
You no longer do 60mph on the single roads, you do 50mph, but its still a national speed limit. So the signs are still the same on NSL roads.
So who's the retard now?

You clearly, that's not what they've said.

I was joking to Ste, but as your getting moody, how can I be retarded over somethign i've not actually read the report about 7
That a different road though, so yes they will need new signs.
Im saying that EXISTING NSL roads that are having their limits changed will not need new signs.
If a road is un-changed and remains at 60mph, im not sure what they will do.
If the NSL roads are becoming 50 zones, a 50 sign will be fitted.
If they change the NSL, but a single road remains 60, then thats the only issue I can see coming up.
You chuffing retard....

So they'll still have to change at least either 1/3 or 2/3's of the signs depending on the way they do it.
Or because people are clearly stupid they'd have to change them all.

People are stupid, and changing the speed limit won't change anything at all.
If your coming round a bend at 50mph and hit a tractor, I really cannot see how 10mph at that speed will save your life.
Peoples driving habbits need to change, the test needs to be harder and longer and also include all roads.
The problem is the people, not the speed limits.
