“But when you compare that to the fact we are killing 3,000 people a year on our roads, it would be irresponsible not to do something about it"
interesting enough really. more killed my alcohol than driving yet no restrictions on that as such is there.

its already 50 for a van on a roads. does that mean now its 40? wagons have to do 30 in a 50 instead of 40 in a 60?
never happen. cost too much to change all the signs over and enforce it.

i blame higher road deaths on the influx of foreign wagon drivers seen as the government priced and taxed our own haulage people out of this country. i mean who is jonny poland supposed to know all the road rules. instead they just run over a family of 5 then flee back to their own country.
let our brittish drivers drive wagons again, like before 2001 as it says thats when our raods were of the safest in europe. oddly as fuel duty increased massively since then, over 50% of wagons on the road are foreign and left hand drive. was this the case before hand? all polish people coming over with their own cars probably no tax mot or insurance and cause more accidents then magically dissappear back to poland?
maybe im worng about the above. but in the last month the 4 crashes ive seen on the m6 all involved foreign plates.

fucking rediculous
When are they going to realise that doing 60 mph or 70 mph isn't killing anyone...
reducing it to 50 mph won't solve anything, except line their pockets with more cash from speeders...
IF a driver is drunk and crashes when it is 60 mph limit...
How is he not going to crash when the limit is 50 mph - he's still a drunk driver.
If a driver chooses to ignore the limit of 60 mph and SPEED causing an accident...
If the same driver chooses to ignore the limit of 50 mph and Speed causing an accident - HOW IS THIS ANY DIFFERENT?
etc
bottom line is... it doesn't solve anything - except for pissing off the average motorist.

The problem is fella, that the government would do a survey / vote on the lines of :
"If you thought it would save more lives, would you think lowering the speed limit to 50 mph is acceptable?"
^^^
If you said 'No' to that, then essentially you're disagreeing to saving people's lives. Hence it'll get a landslide of votes saying 'yes' - as no one wants people to die.
but if the survey just said 'do you think lowering the limit to 50 is a good idea' it'd get a huge NO!

Also they say more deaths. They are constantly more cars on the road. All the young ones are passing there tests

quote: According to the government's own statistics, more than a quarter of deaths and serious injuries on UK roads are suffered by motorcyclists.
These average speed cameras work by reading the front numberplates of vehicles.
Motorbikes don't have front numberplates.
Good thinking.
haha
yes I think I'll go get my bike license done asap.

This carbon emissions stuff is getting really old now. And 'could' save 200 lives.
It's just going to mean more money for the government

Welcome to the UK. The country where there is now no freedom, everything you say and do is frowned upon. Wish this government would fuck off with all these "Improvements" that just take up all the tax payers money that could be better spent elsewhere.

They've pretty much finished doing it around my area...
They started before i left travelling, and now i've returned that's barely a national speed limit area ANYWHERE.
it's all 40 / 50 mph limit... even if it's straight dual carraigeways miles away from any residential areas... It's a joke.
Everyone just does the old speed limits along them still. Just means if you get caught by police you'll be raped now.

Its true what Jeremy clarkson says
"It’s this obsession everyone has got with speed now that speed kills – it doesn’t. Suddenly becoming stationary, that’s what gets you"

its more of a problem when people randomly do 35-40 in a 60 zone. they cause massive tailbacks, people get impatient and try to overtake on dodgy bits of roads.

I love coming over here with the car now, where I can go out for a drive, actually relax and enjoy myself, concentrating on the road and other road users rather than searching for speed cameras/coppers looking to enforce ridiculous limits.

it was proven driving at 56mph was most economic ... so fuck that 'lower emissions' crap...
