I have been given a 2nd chance offer on eBay for a Blue Saxo VTS (R) with 177k on the clock.

Very clean body work. Requires rear axel for MOT.

Lots of Service History.

Is it worth it?

I would...

Firstly the car's probably fine anyway, the engine's go alright if serviced (may want to check the cam belt has been done recently)

However, you can always get another vts / gti engine fitted for not much money.

Alternatively just break it for parts and make more money.

Surely if you've been offered a 2nd chance offer you've already bidded on it, meaning you want it. So why don't you just buy it? You would have if you had won the bidding..

Probably, can you do the axle cheap? If so could be a good runaround for a fair few miles

oh hang on... requires rear axel... hmm that'll be a couple of hundred quid maybe not?

R reg is the older shape too i think. Does it have vts wheels like my 106 gti has? or the old vtr style pepper pot wheels?

Vts wheels alone will sell for £200-£250.

it'll be a good car to whack around in for a laugh

but you have to think, 177k if the rear beam is fucked, what else is? cam belt? water pump? shocks? brakes? etc

he says it hasnt failed an MOT but he has been told by mechanic friend that it requires radius arm bearings or a replacement rear axel. He says it's not noticeable when driving.

It's completely standard with lots of service history.

the axles are a common and expesive fix thats if you can even find one the a bit on the rear side as i said earlia they are a common problem n in all fairness probly struggle sell the parts as most of them are worth peanuts other than the engine, loom, kit, rear axel and wheel whith are phase 1 and notworth that much either if it was my money i wouldnt be buyin it m8

Personally would go for it, 177k is nothing on the TUV engines as they can easily last up to 300k+. Maybes get him to pick up the cost of the trailer home?

Theres a guy local to us called Manicmotors who specialise in citroen and pugs. Could always phone him and ask him for price on the work, can get you his number etc if need be.

Worst comes to worst, break it.

VT* kits reach a fortune as they're sort after by people with the 1.1s etc. VTS engine people would take them if reasonably priced, even if it's just to rebuild and sell on.

VTS interior is fully air bagged and a lot of owners go for this, so even breaking it could recoupe the costs.

would also suggest looking on saxo forums such as saxo sports club or saxperience, as people may know this car and could tell you about its past!

u2u me if you need any other help.
