was just nosing around on autotrader and pistonheads and noticed these have come down alot in price, and even better they have the same engine etc as the r32.

just wanted peoples general opinions on these, to look at you wouldnt know they were a 250bhp car as they look no different to the other a3s but then you dont have to worry where you park it, people racing you etc

this one seems well spec'd and a good price:

http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/cars/AUDI+A3/Ne-2-4-5-6-7-8-27-44-49-53-61-64-67-103-133-146-236,N-23-86-240-4294966334-4294966997/advert.action?R=200904327255208&distance=36&postcode=hp17+8ut&channel=CARS&make=AUDI&model=A3&min_pr=7000&max_pr=9000&max_mileage=&vehicleYearOfManufacture=2004&vehicleRegLetter=04
high mileage examples are going for around 7k and decent 04,54,05 plate ones float around the 8-9k mark depending on spec

so would you guys be tempted? its no back lane hacker like a typre r, 182 etc because they have a very heavy front end but the 4wd should still allow you to make 'progress' down the b roads.

and going on youtube and typing in r32+miltek makes it even more tempting...

Mileage is a bit nasty tho

EDIT: Yes, I'm aware it will go on for a lot longer, but so what.

why didnt you find it quick? i thought my mates e46 330ci had a decent amount of power through the rev range and quick on the move and that was level with an r32

Its all relative to what you are driving now remember - if you are currently in a 1.0 12v this will feel like a rocket ship, if you drive a 2.0LET it might not 'feel' double as quick etc

Nice cars, don't forget that it isn't all in the initial purchase...running costs on a A3 3.2 will be huge compared to your corsa

3.2 is a bit nose heavy. Having said that I think it'd be a grand car for the money as long as you accept from the off its not an out and out sports car, its just a nice premium hatch better suited to fast A roads than throwing round twisty B-roads. It will be pretty bad on fuel however its driven.

The S3 is a much much better option if you are after a sporty car, more powerful, its faster, more economical, probably cheaper tax (?) and its a much more balanced car than the 3.2. They are still relatively expensive though as only been out a couple of years so still be looking at more than 15k.

the new s3 is completely out my range im afraid, fuel isnt a problem as work is only an 8 mile round trip. is your s line the 4wd version? how do you find the general servicing costs excluding fuel?

In that case they will both be left by a VXR???

330Ci is sloooooooooooooooow as buggery.

But I thought the R32 is similar pace to the Astra? Similar power and weight.

Mines a FWD! Diesel too.

Servicings not too bad. £190 for the 1st service at 18,500 miles but on a diesel theres not much to it, no spark plugs to change. Just oil change, inspection & check for fault codes really. There will be the extra cost of the haldex oil to change on the V6, the engine probably holds more oil (but I'm not sure) and 6 spark plugs. So it could vary quite a bit from what I pay.

Decent make 18" tyres start at about £120. I paid £145 per tyre for my Michelins just 2 weeks ago.

If you look on the audi-sport.net forum in the A3 section theres a sticky thread with peoples servicing costs. Might be worth a post on there as there are a couple V6 owners that can probably help with any questions.

Wouldnt say they were slow as a couple of years ago when we were at the pod a 330ci did a standing quarter in 14.4 and it was the guys first attempt too. Standard too.

I've only had a go in a mk4 R32 and I though it was quite quick out of the box no matter what gear pick up was great? My mate at uni has a mk5 R32 and he took me out in that a few weeks ago and again thats no slouch either I actually reckon just as quick as the VXR standard for standard. (as much as I can guage from being a passenger in both recently)

ok cheers have actually just browsed that site, very helpful haldex oil seems to be remmonded to be changed every 20.000 miles and the 3.2 v6 holds alot of oil(£70ish to fill at audi)

that aside it all seems just routine stuff

Does the Audi run a Haldex? I thought that was only the R32 and the 4 motion?

Duno to be honest, just people were talking about it. If its a Quattro it will be Haldex.
