Not sure you'd get a Pug HDi for that money?! Wouldn't it be one of the old DTurbo's?

under 70k would be ideal - i want a bigger car than a corsa so a 106 is out of the question.

golf / astra hatchback size is what im looking for... something bigger than a corsa but not a salooooon! thanks for your input people - ive had a look at each of the cars that have been suggested and i still like the idea of an astra along with a 306 the most... A3 would be nice but i cannot get a decent one for that money.

Ayeee, was thinking of one of the older DTurbo's. Not bad cars and for his price range can get a tidy one with low miles.

Couple of the guys in my work have them. Your not too arsed about them getting the odd ding and good on fuel. Will do 150k before having any engine probs if looked after. Both the guys in my work say they are on the original gear boxes too

If you wanted the Vauxhall 2.0DTI go for it in the Astra not the Vectra - heavier car = less MPG and slower (not much difference but hey ho, it hardly rips your face off anyway)

If you are looking for economy though the 1.7DTi will do you nicely, could get a nice one for your budget as well

Other than that as said, any of the French diesels are supposed to be good, if you start looking at VAG group you will get dogs or nothing for £2200
