Just thought i'd stick a few pics up of my cousins 1.8 Vectra after 50k miles on the same oil

Looks like a conrod has snapped and caused this damage.

It had melted the plastic casing over some cables to the power steering but luckily not damaged the cabling so that has been salvaged.

Check the oil on the lifters, It's like treacle

Luckily no valves were bent so I've sourced another block which his head will be going on.
I've started to clean up the head.

Sorry for all the pics

Nice!

Although 50k miles without a service is quite impressive

Ha Ha Ha. Dumbass!

Every 5k mine gets changed and that's every 3 months.

There's this Pug 206 D that's on our street that runs without oil and has done for the past few years.

Well an MOT is a Service..... isn't it?

Does he not know about servicing intervals for cars - did he expect the engine to run forever with no maintenance?

All that work for the sake of £20 worth of oil + filter and 30 minutes

Of course it would have been low even if the engine wasnt using a little oil, the oil was turning into sludge so in the end it wasnt even oil.

Was the engine not making all sorts of unusual noises?

I've told him I have gallons of oil in the garage at all times and a filter is £2 so he really has no excuse. He did try to make excuses but I shot them all down

tbh I haven't stripped the block down yet so don't know exactly what has happened, However if you look through the 2 holes in the block you can see the crappy old oil that has coated the crank.

Cylinder 3 is my guess that's caused the damage as the piston can be pushed down so obviously no conrod attached.
I'll bet he didn't check the oil much if at all but I haven't seen oil that bad ever, Not even in a scrapper.

Either way he's a bellend of the highest order

He has been lucky though as a couple of the valaves have hit the piston but not bent.

No idea fella, Not been in the car for a good while. Actually tell a lie I drove it to my local garage for a new clutch 3 weeks ago. It was only quarter of a mile though. Seemed spot on then but they are big quiet cars so you won't hear much in the cab.

The real sickener is I didn't do the clutch due to time issues and not having room on my drive as my project is on there. If the clutch had managed another month I could have saved him £100 labour bill and swapped the clutch with the engine

My 12v only does around 5,000 miles a year but still gets an oil and filter change every 12 months.

I do agree with regular oil changes (mine done every 3k max) but look at it this way. Oil is around £20 / 5L, a filter is around £5. So £25 every 3k miles. In 50k miles I would have changed my oil about 16 times and spent around £400 changing my oil!!!!! prob only cost your cousin half that to fix his engine!
is it really worth changing it so often?

Only joking
