Thats what i thought was best for mpg?

Obv the faster you go, the higher the revs, the more the engine is working, so going slower will use less juice.

Only issue is that if your car does 3500 rpm at 70 mph, like I know it does, then the other revs are wrong.

It'll be doing 2500 rpm at 50 mph, and 4500 rpm at 90 mph.

My thoughts exactly. My car does exactly 'half', if that makes sense.

But the manual states indicated 56mph is better in 5th.

Same with dad's M3. Was better at 80mph in 6th than 70mph according to the on board computer. I know nothing about engines, but when a car is doing low speeds in 5th, it'll start to struggle, and will use more fuel trying to stop it stalling.

Keeping a roughly constant amount of revs will give you good mpg, it's accelerating etc that uses up more fuel.

That's what I've always been told anyway
