Since I installed IE8 everytime I use it Norton flashes up and says Phising Protection at risk.
If I click fix it sorts it but as soon as I use internet explorer again it pops up again!
Is there some setting I need to change to get round this? Or am I gonna have to go back to IE7?

There will be a setting but just uninstall norton, it's a terrible terrible piece of software.
There's not a setting, norton just say it's beta software and aren't doing anything about it.

It came with my Dell when I bought it so not getting rid as still have about 18 months of the subscription left. Never had a problem till I put IE8 on it!

I understand that you have loads of subscription left on Norton, but it really does offer virtually no protection. It uses up a tremendous amount of system resources and you may as well just run without any AV software. It lets countless infections in, and then fails to find them.

Norton is as good as no anti virus these days - its the first bit of software along with the likes of McAfee that virus creators will find a way round.
Norton also hogs a stupid amount of system resources to the point where I've actually removed it from people's computers and it's nearly 100% quicker!
Stick with Avast - free to home users - just need to register for a new key once a year and doesn't kick up a fuss about anything unless it really is a virus!

Since the stupid AVG 8.0 has come out I've switched to Avast, I think it's a great program. The updating process is nicer than the AVG one, because it just has a popup when it's done as opposed to several windows while it does it, and it uses a similar popup when new versions are available.

Norton used to be terrible on my PCs, completely sapping the power to the point where it was unusable.

My computer runs fine on Norton but its fairly new and has plenty of RAM. Tried it on my mums older less powerful laptop and it struggles with it.

You won't believe how much faster it is without though.
In terms of protection though, it's THE worst product available and I think it's insult to injury that they make you pay for it when there are loads of free programs available that do the job 100 times better, and are often used to clean up the mess Norton leaves behind.

I will give another free anti-virus a go I think. Cant do any harm if Norton is as bad as people say.
Do I download the new anti-virus software before I get rid of Norton? Or do I need to get rid of Norton 1st?
Will it affect my extended warranty if I get rid of Norton as it came as part of the warranty package?

No you can just disable Norton and install Avast (or whatever) and get that set up, then uninstall Norton after if you decide that it is poo after all!
Not sure on warranty implications - just ridiculous how Norton being as crap as it is has so many people by the short & curlies anyway!!

Matt, Rich's way would work, so you could still keep Norton on there if you REALLY wanted, but you cannot run who anti-virus programs at the same time.
If you wanted to get rid of Norton, you could download Avast, disconnect from your network/unplug your router for a few, uninstall Norton and restart (if it asks you to) then install Avast, restart (if needed) and then re-connect/plug back in

The only security software I have on my computers is Spybot. Even the router firewall is turned off and nothing ever happens  Makes me wonder how people who have 5, 6+ pieces of software manage to get themselves in the shit

Yeh I meant for him to try out to avoid him losing his license seeing as he paid for it
Why the need to disconnect from net though if swapping A/V software? I never do!

Google chrome is miles better than internet explorer 8. Everything just works, no fuss and its very user friendly. If I had known I'd of got it sooner

Chrome is good but it doesn't like either of my banking sites (Nationwide & HSBC) and a couple of other sites, so I tend to still use Firefox with a couple of little hacks to make it quicker lol.

It works ok for me on HSBC. I was on it only half an hour ago using chrome. Strange!
