I know there has been loads of debate over these 2 but which do you prefer
I am going to test drive both at some point but I have concluded the follwoing at present
VXR
Love the seats
Love the interior compared to the 197
Clio
Prefer the exterior to the VXR
Clio is cheaper to insure though
What are peoples opinions on these 2

I'd go for the VXR personally. Tuning potential is far greater than the 197!

VXR of course.
but its not about liking the seats etc its which oen you feel more comfy in, and which one you like at the end of the day.

I haven't driven either but I guess from reading reviews the Clio is the sort of car that needs really working to get the best out of it whereas the Corsa has a more flexible engine.
Personally I prefer the styling of the Clio.

Engine preference would decide it for me tbh.
N/A or Forced Induction...
Both much of a muchness in terms of styling and build quality although the Clio gets compared to much higher valued cars in terms of capability.

It definitley has that in abundance. You can plant it in any gear and it'll pick up fantastically.

On the road - Corsa VXR. Power more easily available.
For a track toy - Clio, without a doubt. Better chassis, better handling, and power at the top end, not in dumploads at lower revs (= wheelspin or TCS).

Drove my uncles vxr and its a nice car I admit, handles really well and rather damn quick - suppose I'm biased to the vauxhall though, I'm not a big clio fan

Just a point on the potential to tune the engine.
Why would you spend £15-17k on a new car and then want to tune the engine- instantly voiding your warrante.
Wouldnt you just spend another grand or two and buy a more powerful car to start with?
I have driven both cars a fair bit and I do like both of them. Personally I still think the clio handles and stops better than the corsa when it comes to day to day driving. I also personally dont really like the look of the corsa that much(althouigh its growing on me in white)
I cant really recommend the 197 high enough - just make sure you get the cup with the recaros and cup suspension and your laughing. Its easily quick enough to scare yourself, et yourself arrested ect and it feels so planted that you have full confidence in taking it to the limit all the time. The brakes on my R27 are quite simply stunning.
Just take both out for a test drive and see which you prefer - there really isnt too much in it imo

You have never driven a Corsa have you Daimo? It's so different to the Astra you would not believe.

Admittidly, no I haven't. But its the charactistics of a turbo engine over a NA. (standard vs standard). Far easier to light up an inside wheel exitting a bend in a turbo, than in a NA engined car.
Personnally, i prefer the clio, but its not me buying the car
