Would any of you buy a car that is recorded as a Cat D but had been repaired properly and was the same as standard?
Just wondering because cars sell for much cheaper obviously and wondering if it's worth it, only annoying part is coming to sell I guess.

If it was cheap enough & repaired to a high standard & I could see pic's of the damage that wrote it off & it was cheap enough, & it was cheap, cheep cheep!

i personally wouldn't, unless i was absolutely skint and was going to run it into the ground. (i.e. expect not to sell it)
even then, i'd be dubious of the repair work carried out - can never really know can you?

Cat D I would yes, as there are bargains to be had, provided you don't pay over the odds for it.
Cat C would be a different matter mind.

Cat D could also be something thats been stolen recovered so often they only have ignition barrell and other minor damage, but the insurance company paid out before it was recovered.

Car in question is selling for 2k less, only has 3.5k miles on it so it's mint. All panel gaps look fine just had a light front ender.
I'm tempted to go and take a look.

If you are getting it at a decent discount to begin with there should be no issues selling on.

Im in similar situation, considering a Cat D. Seller has just reduced it by another £1500 as well!

a friend of mine says you should never buy a cat d for any more than 2/3's of its proper value if it wasnt a cat d.
to answer your question though, i wouldnt do it again, but think i probably just chose a badly repaired one.lol.

My Astra Coupe turbo was a Cat C, it was repaired very well other than a slight colour variation, you wouldnt have know it was damaged at all!

Cat D yes however I'd want to see pics of before, the damage and after. I'd want to see it done in a garage and an invoice, rather than someone in their garage. Not that you can go back to the garage once it has changed owners, but, it just gives reassurance. The same as a FSH or 'FSH done by myself'.
Cat C, definitely not.
As long as you can find out as much information as possible, I don't see why not.

That's what I'm thinking, there is a couple for £5.8k ith over 50k miles on, so it's weighing up whether to go for one without Cat D but higher mileage. I'm swaying towards the Cat D, it wouldn't bother me if it's been repaired properly, which it looks like it has.
All looks fine to me!

Also, consider my car and the damage. It wasn't written off £1800's worth of damage in a reputable, big garage with lots of overheads, so that is a top price. My £450 excess saved it being written off.

A cat D's unlikely going to have been repaired by a garage though deano, at least not through the books with an invoice, more likely by someone in the trade, a panel beater or the likes. IMO anyway.

I do agree with you Deano but being done at a garage doesn't gaurantee anything either. Mate of mine with a black anni, recently had a bump in his, he got it done through the insurance and the workmanship on the repair was shocking, the panel gaps were fine but the wrong parts had been ordered, and the paint was the completely wrong colour and full of marks etc. But i do agree more often than not it will be more of a reassurance

If I was going to be the last owner and everything was legit then I'd go for it. As long as people are open minded about the reason for it being CAT D then its cool.

The guy who is selling it bought it as a Cat D, it was the owner before who did the damage so I can't see any pics. I'll send a text now and see if he has any receipts for the work.

Exactly what my dad does. Buys salvage gets it fixed by his mates that have bodyshops, and then sells it on. If its had mech problems then he does them himself as he use to be a mech.

I guess you can just look at the car in more detail at said point of repair, if it doesn't look right, cut your losses and just walk away

I'd seriously think about buying it Graham, its looks very tidy. Obviously pics can hide a lot of things, but i'd say its definately worth the look!
