So I get home from pretty long drive, put the clutch down to park and CRACK, the clutch cable has snapped. There's all sorts of bits of metal in the footwell, so I'm not going to repair myself 1) I don't know what to do, even if it is easy 2) I have very limited tools.
So, I need to get it to a garage. AA Homestart says they'll take it to the nearest garage, but most are pretty shite. I want to get to a place where I normally go, 6 miles away.
The only way of getting there is towing, via a rope. Will this be ok?! I just have visions of the car beginning to tow and the whole front of the car coming away because of rust.
So, in short, is towing about 6 miles with a rope, ok? Mainly country roads and stuff, no major ones.

Drive it, happened to me before piece of cake to drive.
You dont need any tools to replace the cable though, it is actually a 2 minute job.

I don't think you even need tools to change a clutch cable in a Corsa.

How do I drive it there?! revs n'all?! Ever since I had the actual clutch replaced, the gearbox has made a funny noise as it was low on oil, so I don't fancy abusing it.
Oh, and changing myself isn't an option, as I can't get anywhere to get the parts

I need the car by Monday afternoon or Tuesday morning at the latest.
Anyway, will it be a problem towing by rope 6 miles?

Changing the cable was easy enough to do too. Get gregg to do it if anything

I don't trust towing by rope tbh, too much possible drama. Only ever done it with a straight bar, 2.0 towing a 2.0 turbo The car won't fall apart either way mate

I managed to get a 1983 Mini 15 miles with a rope, behind an Astra VXR, with the rope around the tie rod as there was no towing eye, and it didn't break.
So yeah, yours is going to fall apart as British Leyland metal is amazing.

You worry too much Dean

What cable did you use fro?
I think it may be stretching or not holding properly as I have to keep adjusting it.

towing with a rope is illegal nowadays anyway, but a cable should be easy to fit, and a 12v has loads of engine bay room to work with..
