Is a joke to be honest
My little brother just got a quote for his first car (which he hasn't bought yet) and for a 1.2 16v sxi it's just over £2000! Obviously it's going to be fairly high being that they are not very experienced drivers but a few years back I was pissed off at paying £1100 for my first car never mind £2000!!!
This quote was using confused.com - what are you guys paying for your first cars
(p.s the quote also reflects the same amount for a 1.2 clio and a 1.0 12v)

Firstly, confused.com is wank and somewhere like Adrian Flux is usually cheaper by quite a bit.
Secondly, insurance is high for a reason for new drivers. Everyone has to take the hit, deal with it for the year, then see where he'se at with a years no claims later on (assuming he doesn't wrap up).

i agree with named driver for 1 year, which is what i did, it cost £600 on a 1.4 sport, then the second year i went on my own and it was £600. NCB obviously does something, or it wouldnt exist

the traditional thing on NCB was 1 year 10% off 2 years 20% off etc, there is no way its like that now, what insurance is all about is the risk factor, age/ job/ location they make the difference.

try an get as many older people on the insurance as possible this seems to bring it down quite alot! and getting the quotes early morning and late at night seem to save you 50 quid here an there.

insurance fronting is illegal. don't be a pikey tosser and pay the full amount and earn your NCB.

People telling you to go named on your own car are telling you to do something called Insurance Fronting! Its illegal, and if you need to claim and they suspect it they can withdraw your insurance - basically making you an uninsured driver.
edit - ben beat me to it

it's happened on other forums i've been on, where people have been denied a pay out beause of this.
i paid my dues (£1400 on corsa, £2200 on fiesta and plenty on the focus), that's life at the end of the day.
