After driving around europe, i didnt realise how pathetic our motorway driving is.
When driving through holland, i saw no end of learners on the motorway, and i thought this was a brilliant idea.
They wasnt doing 30 mph either holding everyone up, they were in the first lane doing the limit, and when needed moved over.
So i was thinking, do you think we should have this in our country?
I cant even see why poeple have a problem with it tbh, but i think its needed as we are getting crowded, and people are getting worse with lane disapline!

Something does need to be done, i think its rediculous how they dont show you how to drive on a motorway, just show you in a book

ridiculous idea to let an untrained novice driver do 70mph on a motorway with other drivers on there.

What about the instructer next to them, with a brake pedal
And i dint mean 'right yes you have nearly manged to changed from first gear to second gear on your own, now lets go on the motorway'.....
I mean not long before they are ready for their test, give them a minimum of 5 hours or something, and incoperate it into the driving test.
Trust me, if you have driving in placesl like holland who do this, you will understand it works. You dont get twat cutting you up every mile, you dont get people sat in the outside lane or middle lane all the time!

so would you class a 17yr old just passed his/her test straight onto motor way a "trained driver" ??
something does need to be done, even if its something else compulsory AFTER the main licence is done like pass plus but HAS to be done.

I went on dual carraigways @ 70mph whilst learning & ovrtook when necessary. Surely it's no different to that other than an extra lane or 2?

i know what your saying BUT theres a big difference from someone who has been having lessons for 2 weeks and someone who has had alot of lessons and actually has passed there test and had more experience on roads.

You would think so wouldnt you, and i did the same. But why do people feel the need to sit in the middle lane when its clear in the first.
Its like it dont exsist to some people

I agree learners should be allowed, but maybe at certain times only. It's daft not to be learnt on probably the most dangerous aspect. Obviously not straight away though.

I passed my test in Feb this year and then in June went down to my cousin's in North Devon which took 4 hours, first time on the motorway and managed not to kill anyone But to be fair I go on the dual carriageways a lot.
I agree that it would be good to have a couple of lessons on it though, because you're pretty much thrown into it. There's a lot more lorries and idiots in cars and people waiting until they're 2 inches from your bumper to brake, compared to A roads.

It seems from many drivers in this country that motorways use a completely different set of rules, where the middle lane is for normal driving but if someone overtakes on the inside lane they are in the wrong and if someone flashes you whilst you're sat in the middle lane with nothing in the inside lane you must NOT under any circumstances move over but remove your left hand from the steering wheel and give them the finger/ the V/wanker/knobhead sign because they are obviously in the wrong

Same here. I've never understood why people have so much trouble with motorways when theyre practically the same as a dual carriage way

i fear the problem is not the lack of lessons.
Its the nationality of the drivers tbh.

i was going to make these points. End of the day if you're a competent enough driver to pass your test, and still can't work out motorways, then It's down to a lack of intelligence or in some cases over-arrogance, either way driving lessons won't fix it

motorways are safer than normal roads anyway so i think you should be allowed to learn on them.

I don't get this thing about the middle lane
I hate people who can't stay left just as much as the next guy but if they're in the middle lane that still leaves a lane for you to overtake them, why would you waste time sitting flashing them, move right to overtake, or left to undertake if you are that worried.

never seen the problem with motorways tbh, same sort of thing as a dual carriageway.
people that don't understand the highway code shouldn't be driving anyway.

All seems common sense to me, but I know a few people who refuse to go on motorways, they'd rather take an hour long on their trip and do back roads, because they've never felt confidence going on there, which is where I think lessons would help.
Surely it's better to have somebody who knows what they're doing sitting next to you, rather than someone who has never driven on them before going on by themselves.
