Thoses cars were 1000+bhp in qualifying trim with no driver aids

Look at how they look like the sat on them rather than in them to

also, wasent 1986 the last year that an f1 race was at brands? European GP?

qualifying power was more like 1500bhp 'Normal' was 'only' 1000bhp odd.
Its very strange how the suspension, tyres, aerodynamic technology is soooooo much better now, the cars now a days with half the power can still do faster laps than the turbo ones.

Senna's JPS Lotus had approximately one horsepower for every cc during qualifying at Monaco that year.

And yes, 1986 was the last proper British GP. Mansell won and I wasn't there.

One of my biggest regrets.

Fuck a duck

My old man used to lap in low 50's on the INDY circuit at brands on his bike (only a 250cc single).

51-52 secs, Piquet is coming through Stirlings after the full GP cirucit.

Fucking quick!!!!

To be fair, no-one has ever proven or disproven the claims of power, the myth of ome team maxing their dyno at 1400bhp is unfounded too.

However, they were using 81psi of boost pressure in the Senna car at one point That's just insane.

Imagine that today, with more modern technology, considering a 2.4 litre v8 can produce ~800bhp, without a turbo or two, I reckon you'd be looking at 3000bhp in an F1 car if they were allowed to run free again, if not more.

Random Info I found:

BMW M turbo engines did not only go to the Brabham Team. Rather, Arrows also used the M power machine from 1984 to 1986, just like ATS in 1983/84 and Ligier in 1987. In 1986 Gerhard Berger won the race in Mexico in a Benetton Formula 1, marking the last triumph of this turbocharged power unit. A year later Road and Track, the US car journal, demonstrated the supreme performance of the Benetton B 186 with Teo Fabi at the wheel: Powered by 900 bhp, Fabi's monoposto accelerated to 100 mph (160 km/h) in exactly 4.8 seconds. And Paul Rosche was confident that this four-cylinder was able to develop a lot more power in practice: "It must have been about 1,400 bhp, but we don't know the exact figure since our engine dynamometer didn't go beyond 1280 bhp."

And a pic too

[quote=Gashmaster]Was invited over to Dawn Treader yesterday by Patrick Morgan to have a look around at his fantastic collection of race cars.

One being Senna Lotus 98T chassis 04

At the moment Patrick is carrying winter maintenance as the car has completed a full race distance.

Chatting to him they run the car on 3.4 bar which is 850bhp!!

4 bar is 975bhp

5.5 bar is 1350bhp
