Never drove one until today.
Had to play games with the traffic wardens & keep touring the block while my mate was at the shopping center changing an xmas gift.
I quite liked it, was nippy enough & gear box was quite pleasent to use

if you like the box on these you'll die when you try the focus ones mines terrible and always crunching into third gear as it's so slow

Yer the gearboxes areone of the best bits
although stop start traffic can be annoying with the short ratios

Everyone who's never driven one properly will moan about the lack of torque. But like you say, with it's decent gearbox you dont really notice it as you get through the gears so quickly!
I can't wait to get a header on mine then have it mapped with K PRO.
Gavin, that one you posted a link to the other day, my mates one, i've driven that like OMGZ the difference is something else, TOTALY transforms the car

Yer everyone I have spoken to with a k-pro says the difference is unreal.
Once I have got my braided hoses and camber adjusters fitted I am going to source myself one

im thinking of getting 1 very soon, dependent on finding a decent 1, would you guys pay 5k ish for a pre facelift, or spend the extra (7/8k) for a decent facelift or premier edition?

if you got the money get a premium edition as your doing to get a much newer car with a few more goodies and will always be worth slightly more than the other models, but if its going to take you along time to get another 3k if you already have 5k then get a pre facelift model, no performance difference and they are a real bargain at the mo

Aren't the newer ones slightly faster as well due to revised gear ratios?

very slightly yes, but the new one weighs 30kgs more.
the jap version has 222bhp prob the fuel they have over there.

Get the best to what your budget allows. I did contemplate selling mine and raising the extra cash for a 55/06 plate premier but then thought what's the point?
If you could afford it I'd opt for a DC5 now, or even a 98 spec DC2 import

yeah quite alot of differences, revised mapping and cam profiles I think (don't quote me), I know that the fuel in japan is 100 minimum so it's mapped for 100, big anti roll bars, recaro seats, lsd, obviously prettier in champ white

gear box is one of the best I have used
Good for 350 BHP too
As I have always stated they are a great package
Not the quickest but by no means the slowest and great value

The gearbox is good to use but they are prone to fookin up especially 2nd gear
Next thing thats getting done on the wifes is rear JDM anti roll bar and tie bar, then camber bolts including the fast road set up.
Then the brakes will be uprated as there a pile of cack
