I've got an interview on Tuesday, its with the Local Council. I've had some inside info that the job is already earmarked for someone, this person has apparently been doing the job on a temp basis but the Council are obliged to advertise it.

Should I still go for the interview or just forget it?

I really dont want to waste my time and my current employers time if I've no chance of getting the job. If I dont go do you think that would reduce my chances if I were to apply for any other jobs within the Council in the future?

Wouldn't bother - the council has to externally advertise the job, but if someones doing it then they WILL get it.

My missus' used to work in Staffordshire Moorlands Council's Tourism department. Peiople didn't get promoted as such, they got interviewed.

Saying that, it won't do you any harm

would go for it, unless its going to cause an inconvenience (sp) with your current employer, you never know what might happen, and will also sharpen up your interviewing skills for future

Agree with Lee, waste of your time, you'd just be making up the numbers unfortunately.

Yeah the last one I went for in the Council was exactly that as well. The girl whio went into the interview infront of me came out then walked straight to the desk next to me and started making tea and coffee, she obviously worked there! Needless to say I never got it

You would just be making up the numbers if you go, but yes if you cancel it will affect your chances in the future

You won't be there long, and if you make a good impression, it could help you in the future as they will already be impressed by you

Agree here, i worked for a college which is the same, it's not what you know, who you know ...but regardless, i went for an interview, got a call 2-3 days later saying i didn't get the job, but they'd offer me a totally different roll if i wanted it. So go along and see what happens. Quitting before even seeing is pathetic.

Yeah there's always that I suppose

Whats bothering me about not going is that it won't look good if I apply for anything else with them

you've got nothing to lose if you go for it then, they wont be impressed if you dont go for an interview that they chose you for?

TBH you're best off going. You'll gain a bit more experience in being interviewed for future jobs, plus you never know the other person may not want it and you could get it.

Just go and ask them why the other person is going to get the job, ask the person is working there already what there name is. Then when they ring you to say you dont have the job, as if ______ got the job and why

I would do that anyway
