I have unfortunately suffered with coldsores pretty much all my life.
I hate them.
After trying just about every conventional / un-convential treatment I could find, I do something like this, which "tends" to reduce its lifespan to 3-4 days rather than 7-8 I can suffer with - and makes it less noticable
It doesn't always work though, try and catch it early - and don't blame me if you hurt your lip or get ill
zovirax - does work, and is the best over the counter stuff, ONLY apply it with a cotton bud, apply it slightly more often than advised
Nail polish remover (with acetone) / surgical spirit - apply with a cotton bud on a very regular basis, maybe every 30mins, this will dry it up.
take plenty of vitamin C
I find the above help loads, those little patches have their use too, but they have no active ingredient to fight it.
