used to be a lot easier. 2 of my mates got in about 8 years ago. apparently they sometimes have a quota of people that they have to fill. certain ammounts of men/women/minorities may or may not get in depending upon what they are looking for at the time. i've heard that from a sergeant at GMP.

I keep thinking about going for it as it would be something I'd really enjoy.
But compare that to my 9-5 where the pay is better and the work is easy with no stress I'm sticking with this at the moment. Although it does bore the shit out of me but I live for the weekends/evenings

Not that difficult if your focused. I found when I applied & after actually sitting down & thinking about it that I didint really want to be a police man very much & was just attracted by the fact its ok money for life & a pension & not doing the actual job..............so I didnt take it any further.
A guy I know went for it & alot of my mates turned round to him & told him to his face 'well you'd better not try & lift me or i'll batter you'! Was hilarious!!

I am.
The application process took me 18 months from sending the initial form to my first day in training, then another 22 weeks in a classroom then 10 weeks with a tutor before becoming independent.
To me, the process wasn't too difficult. It's more about thinking and planning answers. I had a huge application form, fitness test, assessment day and medical/security checks and then was in.
Any Qs or advice on application process then ask away and i will do my best to answer them.

exactly the same with me, you have to WANT to be a policeman, not just do it for a job, which one of my mates did and he lasted 6 months before being asked to resign

not as good a job as may think imo
shite hours, meaning poor social life outside police, takes toll on relationships etc
a good wage if it was 9-5 with none of the shite but for dealing with all the scum of the earth, abuse, fighting people spitting on you etc at all times of day and year i think there are treated abismally and underpayed
i can think of many a better job tbh

You have virtually no chance of getting in these days if your not ethnic or gay, pr preferably both.

The money's not the best to be fair. It's a great job for the right person, If you aren't sure then you probably aren't the right person. We might get a lot of shit and as for the treatment of the Police by this Government I think it's well publicised that they have crippled the Police Service with all the extra paperwork/changes in staffing and the frankly disgusting way that they went about underhandedly robbing us in the pay dispute last year. All of that said it all melts away when you're driving on a good blue light run or you're following a vehicle that's failing to stop. It's not the sort of job you join for the money but it can be very enjoyable and your colleagues for the most part will be good people and there won't be the back stabbing atmosphere of an office.

Were you bullied at school?
Do you have an authority complex?
Do you like to make a mountain out of a petty issue?
If your answers to the above questions are Yes proceed to pick up your badge and Baton to start beating immigrants.
Police officers are wankers I've met 3 that were half decent the rest are ignorant Fat Bully victims with attitude problems
Sorry GTITIM & chris SRi but it's true - Arrest me

seen quite a bit of backstabbing among colleagues and different shifts. Always thought police are very clique abit like farmers. Its a life style rather than a job
And as some have said alot of officers i have met have an 'im better than you attitude and power often goes to there head'
