When going abroad would you rather spend a few hundred going self catering and then having to take a load for spending, food etc or just spend the same amount going all inclusive?
Can't decide between going to somewhere like Greece for £700 + probably £800 spending money or just go to somewhere like the Dominican Republic for £1400 and a couple of hundred spending

depends where your going imo.
if going greece or somewhere similar i would go self catering but dominic republic i would go all in as they tend to be nice hotels.
but depends on the quality of hotel u get

Places like Greece of Dom Rep i'd go all inclusive.
I'd also consider all inclusive on winter/snowboarding holidays (i've done it a few times and its great)
However, i wouldn't do it on clubbing holidays like Ibiza etc

Depends who yur going with and what you want... all inclusive is always a good way of making sure you have necessary elements of a good time if you run out of a money and if you shop about you can get good deals on AI these days. Infact I would probably always go all inclusive after last few holidays.

self catering, only been to 1 all inclusive and thats enough to put me off them forever tbh, food was naff (ended up eating out after the first day) and the drinks had about the same amount of alcohol in as a wine gum .

I went all inclusive to Turkey couple of years ago, best part about it is rolling out of bed to the side of the pool and not worrying about carrying anything about with you.

What about half board? I've always done that. Get a good breakfast and dinner at the hotel and if your hungry in between grab something to eat for lunch whilst your out

I prefer half board; I don't like the constraints of fully inclusive or where they segregate off areas just for the people on fully inclusive with cheaper drinks etc

Will just be Me and the G/F going. She's not bothered where we go she just wants to get away
Pretty much narrowed it down to Dominican Republic,Egypt, Corfu, or Jamaica
Egypt is cheapest but the rest all work out a pretty similar price in total

Last 3 holidays ive been, all in 5 star hotels.
Egypt - All enclusive, you wouldnt want to venture outside to eat + hotel food was good quality.
Tenerife - Half board, virtually 300 resturnats within a 15 min walk, mostly run by expats. Hotel breakfast was very school diner-ish & we ended up going to a cafe round the corner on a few occasions for a full english for like 3 euro's!!
Mexico - Shit hot hotel, food was amazing, 15 resturants in the hotel, steak every day cooked infront of you + 24hr free room service. No need to eat out at all, & apparently to do so would be very expensive!!

Don't go to corfu it's not nice, even the top of the island (e.g. miles away from kavos) isn't anything to write home about. Jamaica or Dominican for me as i'd expect them to have better resorts than egypt

Eh? Corfu, Sidari inparticular is very nice.
Alexis Restaurant Garden is nice, as is Harry playing his guitar at Dimiti Apartments.

Dimitri Studios mate. Harry's guitar night is good on wednesday nights
Alexis Garden Restaurant, Ollie and I highly reccomend, the bloke with the camo trousers is very friendly.
Its self catering, which is good as you can tempt northern girls with beef burgers.
the walk to the main strip of sidari is excellent with a wide variety of motoring eye candy.
The main strip itself is quality, with B.E.D Bar being the bar of choice, quiz nights daily, with the Misfits being the team to beat in July 08.

Haven't been to Sidari but Kavos is one of the scruffiest places I have ever had the misfortune of visiting

the plane was full of imbeciles wearing tshirts "kavos 08" on the front and a ridiculous name on the back. but they were all going to kavos where all the idiots will go.
the north of the island is much better, a lot more chilled out.

I stayed not far from the airport but had a trip to sidari and didn't think it was 'that' nice (compared to what i'd expect from dominican for example), fair play though if you stayed there you have a more valid opinion to offer.

It certainly isn't a Dominican kind of holiday but it isn't a shithole like Kavos.
And the chicken sandwiches from Harrys dad are sublime.

I quite enjoyed Corfu when I went but that must be about 10 years ago now.
Looking more and more like the Dominican Republic, £1272 for a week or £1668 for 2 weeks

Dominican Rep is lovely, but again its one of the places where you'll want to stick in your resort or on the chartered trips.
Last time I went we got hit by a hurricane and was stuck indoors for 10days, still one of the best holidays i've been on
