Lloyds offered £2 per share on the take over. I work as a Financial advisor sold mine 3 years ago for £10.16 per share. It just shows how F*cked the economy is at the moment

Great time if your an investor potentially...some gamblers will be making a lot of money buying these shares and selling once the economy improves again (which it will).

Does anybody not sit on the internet allday buying and selling shares? Great way to earn a wage with just observing the prices which constantly go up and down.

You are not allowed to short sell any more so you would have to hold the shares for a while first anyway so it would be hard to make a massive wage unless you invested big money

short sellign only refers to borrowing shares, you can buy shares one minute and sell them the enxt if you so wish + short sellign restrictions are only on some financuial securities at prsent

Ah right, didn't know that, I've done it before whenever I had free time but we're talking last year since I last did it. Had a bit of spare rhino from some paint I sold,I mainly ended up investing in Barratt Homes as I knew at the time they were doing really well before all this credit stuff.

theres only a certain number of companies that you arent allowed to short sell against. Mainly banks and insurance firms

Indeed, and as I said, what Jizzy is suggesting isnt short selling at all. Its just short term ownership which is perfectly legal

IMO with the current market volatility making money on the FTSE100 intra-day/week you'd have to be able to tell the future and be v v careful.

Well it was 4061.28 when i checked this morning.
Is that £4061 per share, or £406 per share?
Thing is with share, unless you've kept track of the company your looking to buy from its really hard to do.

the FTSE100 number is just an index of all the blue chip companies, I dont think it equates to a figure that easy.
Yes thats the point of trading shares, you know what you are doing

more to the point you normally need a grand or two to play with to get into it properly! On the futures market you need something like £20k to start playing.

Last time I did it was, or it wouldn't have even been an option, I had spare cash in a seperate account, I sat watching the shares for a week before I even spent a penny, all the constant rising companies were a no-no as they were long term investments, and the gradually declining companies were a no-no for obvious reason, but the companies where the shares were up one day and down the next were the perfect ones and if I had the time to do it again I would because it got me an average British wage at that time, maybe all different now with shares plummeting but I'll have a look at it sometimes soon.

i have quite a a few shares in different companies, i have 2000 give or take in lloyds where worth bout 12k a year ago, now only worth 5k makes me sick, but i will ride it out, not as bad as my grandad he has 90,000 lloyds tsb shares (he got most of them through work) not only are his shares worth fuck all compared to what they were before but his disposable income has dropped rapidly becuase the dividend payout was about 43k a year
