Firstly, I spotted this in the The Times 'InGear' supplement:

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/driving/new_car_reviews/article4963121.ece

In short, the potential for a 3.0 Diesel engined BMW to be in the same tax band as economical city cars. The 330d SE currently sits at £145 per annum in Band D, but could potentially hit £120 per annum Band C.

Then I found this:

Autotrader link

A BMW 118d AC Schnitzer 'Sport Eco' which has been remapped to 171bhp (pretty much the same as the 120d) but with £35 tax per annum.

I don't care what anyone says and how anyone feels about economy, MPG etc. The fact that you can get high performance cars without being penalised for things you normally do i.e. tax and MPG is quite amazing.

118d is anything but a sportscar. Even with AC Schnitzer stickers.

It would be a great, fun economical everyday car tho!

Dad's 120d doesn't hang about. So that would be just as good.

Not going on just MPG etc, but the government has been penalising 'gas guzzling' cars and they are generally ones which go quicker - yet you can go just as quick now, but without getting stung financially.

Shame all the oil will run out in 40 years

All the North Sea oil was supposed to have ran out by now, there's more left to extract than has already been extacted......by far.

LMAO, it's even better with the DTC fully off, much more fun.

If anyone can find me a LSD for a 320d E90, I'll kiss them.

I've been in economy mode today, managed to get the range to increase on my 15 mile journey home by 38 miles. It's a miracle car.

Still only averaged 40.1mpg since I've had it though.

And, for the record, I cannot see that 330d making 50mpg, when my nextdoor neighbour struggles to get his 530 above 25

It's quite funny how angry he gets at it

On a serious note, does anyone really buy a Diesel if they want to go fast? Its all well and good saying it gets to 60 in 6.1 secs, but if thats your thing then there is no way you will see 50mpg?

Well if I wanted to go slow and get lots of MPG, I wouldn't have bought the Sport 130bbhp TDi.

I didn't buy it as a performance car, but 130 bhp + 45mpg all day every day isnt a bad combination.

No, I bought mine because it was a good all rounder. I actually wanted a 330d so I could go fast and get good economy, but they didn't have any.

It's fucking good on the motorway and will alledgedly do 146mph.
