split opinions on PH

I think its stupid, Im 17 and I give 3 mates a lift to 6th form 2 of them can drive, so if this law came in then it means we would have to go in 2 cars, which adds to congestion and CO2 emissions! Also parking is already limited at most places, adding even more cars will make it even more worse.

Another thing to think about, one car with 4/5 people in messing about or 2 cars racing each other. Whats more dangerous.

(I always drive sensibly with mates in the car, never drive anywhere near my/the cars limits with anyone else except me in the car as I couldn't live if I crashed, killed a mate and I walked out fine!)

Statistics show that young drivers with young males in the car are much more likely to crash.

On the rare occasion i do have more than 1 other person in my car i enjoy it because they all to their best to make me drive like they do (like cunts) and i just dont. It winds them up and they slag me off I love it.

As much as I like arguing about that point, it's not BS, it's fact unfortunately, the stats show that young males as a whole are more at risk than any other group.

Of course there will be young males who don't crash and drive sensibly, as always there are exceptions to the rule.

It's not bullshit. It's the truth, and by your statement you have said exactly the kind of thing that backs up the views of what the people trying to bring this sort of thing think.

Seeing as new drivers "mostly" think they can drive really well (hmmmm), then they get a load of mates in, which egg them on more, which makes them drive even more recklessly.

The amount of sub 20yo's ive seen hooning around with a car full of mates is rediculas. Especially when they try to race me in the VXR in their 1.1 106.... I don't waste my fuel on them.

So yes, i totally agree with it.

But the thing is, young drivers do generally carry more passengers than older people, so they will crash more often with more people in the car

Its specifically when they are in with young males though, not females, or any other group.

so many people i know of have crashed with passengers in the car, TBH i think it's a good idea, 6 months is nothing.
If the law comes in now new drivers will have to have no complaints because it's a rule they know before they pass there test.

When im with people, i tend to cruise along at speed limit and just chat and listen to music!

Its all hyped up anyway - just like how they are raising the driving age.

If they are so botherd.... they should just ban young people from driving istead of the 'you cant do this.....you cant do that' nanny state!

Im not botherd anyway ill just buy a superbike

Am i bovverd tho...........

out of 30 million people who drive in this country (probably more now just no license) 270 deaths or injuries isnt much!

I think it would be worse, because youngens would just convy and boot round so there would be loads of 'loons' on the road!

Its all bullshit,
a mate of mine was killed in the passenger seat of a car a few weeks ago (local people have probably seen it in the news) yet it doesn't make me think its a good idea to ban young people having people in the car, everyone will still carry passengers.
I drive more sensible with passengers in the car.

My thoughts, slightly off course from the central topic of this thread;

Driving more 'agressively' when alone (as it's 'less risk than with passengers') is a bit of a false economy. You're likely putting far more people at risk than just yourself...

I also might add that statistics I feel paint an extremely accurate population based picture that one cant really argue with. Near everyone feels they are at least a 'safe' driver when in the first few years of driving. From my own experience I feel at 17 or upon passing a test whatever age one tends to grossly overestimate your own level of driving skill. Thats not a swipe at new drivers by any means, simply my observations drawn from my own experience.

Laws re speed, safety and dangerous driving on the public highways are laws for a reason. On balance, I would of course be hypocritical if I didn't concede I myself might have failed to adhere to these laws on occasion.

These laws exist in some states in the USA, and I believe Australia where you have to have a sticker in your back window to say you have recently passed for something like a year.`

But if you can stop 270 people from killing themselves then why not? Out of those 270 people it could be your mum, and little brother walking to school or something. It's not just the people in the car that matter.

I know what you are saying, your 100% right, but the gouverment go on about accidents and deaths like we have 270 a day, thats what im trying to say.

It wouldnt apply to me anyway even if it did come ino practice, but i feel if they have passed their test, they should be able to do what they want, due to time, money, effort that you have to put in to pass a test these days.

I can understand with both sides of the arguement!
