Im having trouble with my car insurance.....

Last year policy was £650, during this cover i got a speeding fine sp50.

My renewal came through from elephant @ £1185.........

How the hell can it nearly double just because of one speeding ticket???

Ive done the popular search engines with no luck, any advice on decent providers???

Cheers...

If multiple providers are coming back with quite similar quotes -as you've hinted at, then I think yes, with your age/risk profile the sp50 will bump up the premium to the sort of level indicated by the quotes you're being given.

Though I don't discount you may find someone who will take more of a risk and insure you for cheaper. Surprisingly, phoning the companies directly and asking them to reduce the quote to £XXX, then some haggling, has in my experience been a very effective method of reducing premiums. Worth a try.
