i use a proper old style pressed plate at the back and havent been pulled yet

For number plates to be Legal they have to have the right font size/spacing/font.

black and silver plates - £30 fine or a trip to see the local magistrates i'm afraid. Personally, as police i would give you a rectification ticket to get them changed. if i saw you again with them on i would report you to court as i figure if you dont listen then you will just pay a fine and carry on. short trip to the courts would be more likely to make you comply with the law.
