Are they reliable?
I could imagine costly repair bills

My mate's is a lot of fun with a touch under 300bhp. Over 400bhp makes them a hell of a handful though.

It's all relative... Are we talking more or less reliable than a Wankel or a Corsa?

Reliable as in something major failing like electrics or boxes etc..
Obvioulsy bits like bushes and wear and tear items are not what i call reliability problems
I want something fast that scares the shit out of me and abit from time to time

Always liked these and was going to buy one over one of my last scoobys. As said they feel a bit dated inside and also i found the clutch heavy in the few i test drove might have just been the cars i drove.

I had a MK2 Rev 1 2.0 16v last year and it was such a hoot to drive
Obviously not same league as the tubby, but overall was an excellent between car
Friend of mine has a MK2 Rev3 with a few extras. Its also running about 350-375, but has had a lot spent engine wise

You can do a lot to modernize the looks.
And IMO, you can't claim to be a true car enthusiast til you've owned a car with pop up headlights.

Exactly. You just have to know when the turbo spools so it doesn't surprise you coming off a roundabout or suchlike.

Mine used to snap out at the slightest think without even driving like a plumb & it wa san N/A.....I only imagine the turbo to be worse!
Its a car that you cannot drive like a dick & get away with it....theres no sympathy when theres water/oil/leaves/anything other than dry tarmac on the roads!!

I have a rev 3 turbo MR2. My third MR2 turbo. Was going to LET my Corsa but decided I wanted another MR2. I love this car to bits. Aiming for 350bhp
BUY ONE! You will not regret it
