Throwing a cocktail party next month ( ) and I've got no idea where to start as far as shopping is concerned. I usually only ever drink beer and whiskey so I need to stock up on a pretty basic series of spirits.

Where to start? I'm guessing a bottle of Gin, Rum, Vodka, Tequila? Anything else I might need?

I shouldn't be allowed to entertain I'm rubbish

it starts by giving me your car

but cant go wrong with;
Gin, whisky, vodka, southern comfort, that apple sourz stuff and other flavours.

go into a book shop or something or look online and look for cocktails and how to make them (youll soon see what you need)

Blue Curacao

Relatively cheap, but with OJ and Pineapple makes a good, bright green Cocktail

Apple Sourz and Southern Comfort and whisky don't really make good bases for coktails.

Not in terms of a coctail party anyway; you need "white" spirits or brightly coloured ones; but steer clear of dark spirits

I'd recommend you do jugs or punch bowls of things like Blue Lagoon, Sex on the Beach, Pimms & Lemonade (at the bar I work at we do that with a few shots of gin as well which was rather nice) and Cosmopolitans. They go down well

Buy the bits from Lidl or Aldi mate.

I would say the essentials for a cocktail party are:

Vodka
Gin
Rum
Tequila
Bourbon

OJ
Mint Leaves
Lemons and Limes (Lots of!)
Ice (Lots of!)
Cocktail shaker

Then you will need all the pissy little extras like Curaco (tripple sec) or Blue curaco and so on...

Off the top of my head you will be able to make 4-5 different cocktails from those ingredients. Which is all people will really want tbh.

Flick through some recipes on the internet to see what you fancy. Then have a set list of maybe 6-10 and let people know what they can have.

Big ones are:

Martini (Gin or Vodka)
Tequila sunrise/sunset
Harvey wall banger (I love these :lol
Sex on the beach
Mojitos
Cosmopolitan
Manhattan

Maybe do some champagne cocktails?

For those you need:

Cassis
Brandy

That means you can make Kia Royals (Dash of cassis in the champs and the traditional champ cocktail which is a dsah of brandy and a sugar cube in the champs.

Can you tell I am a bar manager?

Awesome posts guys, thanks alot

Lass that is coming has been wanking on about Mojito's for weeks, so I guess that would be a good place to start.

Off down to Aldi tonight then to stock up on cheap spirits, printed this thread off for a list.

Will spend the afternoon checking out different cocktails now and how the hell to make them

Dont forget Triple Sec (for long island ice tea, so stuff like Curacao, Grand Marnier or Cointreau
Margarita mix is dirt cheap

And just make kamikaze's all night long (vodka, triple sec and lime)
