Right, the time has come to purchase some new spanners for work. the ones i have now are a crappy set of RS own brand spanners that i got on the cheap. cost is not an issue so what are the best make spanners you can get?

I know it's been set before but Halfords profesional range is surprisingly good and has a lifetime guarantee.

Halfords Pro are good for general stuff, if you start using them on stuff like Manifold bolts, you might get slipping.

Tbh I have used a pretty widde range of tools now and deffo stay away from the cheapy ones, no doubts there, what you save in money you waste in masses of added time working with shat tools.

I would say go for halfords pro range if they will just be used for every day stuff, but if you are using them day in day out in a heavy duty application then I would deffo look towards more of the snap on kind of ranges

ok snap-on are ruled out as they have frozen our account with them. its now between Bahco, Britool, Facom and Melco.

tbh they are probably all as good as each other.

I think most engineers would be able to recommend you a decent slide rule or calculator, better off asking mechanics about tools.

Dont buy Ziegen. I bought a set a few years ago, ive snapped my 14mm and 5 months down the line im still awaiting replacement

I have heard nothing but praise about the snap on flankdrive range though. Very capable spanners

Though my 2p would be to go for Halfords Pro stuff. I've used spanners and sockets by them a fair few times and it's all good stuff, plus there is the warranty which is a total bonus. I'd love a big red Snap-On toolbox one day though!

I got a full Teng top box with a load of tools when I started work about 5 years ago. Nothing has broken so far, spanners are all fine and working. Would defo recommend them, Anything with a lifetime guarantee will be fine though as if it breaks just send it back.

I work in a tool store in Glasgow and our top line used to be Britool but theyve only recently moved their production from Britain to China and so the recent models of their ratchets etc are very poor. We no longer stock them and use Bahco/Stanley/Unior instead.

untill you have owned/ used a snap-on flank drive plus spanner...you cannot appreciate how much better they are than anything else available.

steep though at £210 for 11 spanners

But you have got a set of spanners for life there, so it makes it good value if you look at it that way
