My girlfriend is currently in intensive care after she crashed her Saxo on Saturday afternoon.

Ive known her since secondary school and about a month ago we started going out.

She had just dropped me off at my house and was heading home and hit a Vauxhall Vivaro head on, on the brow of a hill.

She was knocked unconscious instantly and had to be cut free from the car. A mate of mine happened to be travelling that road and was the 2nd person on the scene. He phoned the ambulance and was sat in her car trying to talk to her until the ambulance arrived.

She has broken both her thigh bones, her foot, collapsed both lungs, ruptured her spleen and the most worrying injury is she has severe head injury. No visible marks or cuts on her head, just internally where her brain has swollen / bruised.

The doctors said its highly possible that she wont recover from this.

I went up to see her on Sunday night and it was the most horrible thing u have ever seen. Just lying there with what looks like half of NASA keeping her alive. Pipes and wires everywhere and machines beeping and hissing all over the place. I had to leave as it was too much to handle.

Yesterday they tried to wake her but to no avail, so she was airlifted to Edinbugh Western hospital.

The latest update is that the pressure in her head has gone up slightly but she is stable for now.

I got sent home from work yesterday as i was in a bit of a state.

Does anyone have any advice on coping at a time like this as im finding it VERY hard?

Only advise i would give is do what ever you feel is right, if u wanna stay with her all day and night then do it. Dont let people make decisions for you.

Seems like i come on here and post stuff like this too often.

A year ago next month i had to bury a mate who had died.

A few months ago another mate was killed on his motorbike.

My mum wonders how i manage to stay sane sometimes.

As above, do what YOU want to not what other want you to do.

Hope she makes a full recovery.

christ dude i'm really sorry to hear about that. my thoughts are with her, her family and obviously yourself. really hope she pulls through it pal. don't have any advice for you i'm affraid as i've never experienced anything like that. recovery from things like this varies from person to person. try to keep your chin up though and don't feel bad if you can't face it straight away. there's nothing selfish about it at all. you'll be there when you're ready.
how was the people in the other vehicle mate?

The van driver was ok. Very shaken up and crying etc buy physically ok.

Im just kicking myself for not getting my finger out and getting a car. If a had a car then none of this would have happened as id have driven myself home.

tbh mate anything could be blamed if you think about it hard enough. you did nothing wrong at all. nobody will be blaming you so don't let them thoughts enter your head.

Horrendous story mate - fingers crossed for you that she pulls through.

Not that it makes any difference whatsover in the current situation, but I presume one of them was trying to overtake another at the top of the hill?

I had the police round last night taking a statement and he said it was just the two cars invloved. No one knows what happened, but there in the process of finding that out.
