Following on from the "Have you ever been in love" thread and things ive seen in my time. Why is it that people these days have to get engaged and married so quickly?

Seems alot end up seperating after a few years anyway, Ive always been of the opinion that you should wait untill your with someone you do love and want to spend your life with.

Example of what I mean is my gf's friend has just got engaged to her bf. They have been together about 6 months! I mean, there still in the "honeymoon" period, ofcourse they still feel like they love each other.

Me and the missus have been together 3 and a half years now and I don't feel ready for any of the above.

So whats it all about?

(apologies for lost first post )

Quite simply, in my opinion, when the going gets tough it buys some time. Completely the wrong way round to what it should be.

Edit: And like you mentioned, honeymoon period

A mate of mine has just started seeing an underage girl (He's 18, shes 15) and they're engaged after 4 months

Me and my ex got engaged after 2 and a half years and then split up 4 years later

At my age now I would probably ask someone after a year/eighteen months or so tbh if it felt right

Stupid people get engaged that quick, they are normally very young too. I wouldnt think about marriage or getting engaged with a girl until like, 4 or 5 years have passed. If I didnt feel like doing it after 5 years of being together then you're not going to feel it in 10 imo

That makes no sense though surely? Seeing that the last girlfriend seemed like the only yet lasted 4 years. Surely that would make you wait long with the next one before popping the question?

My mates ex who he split up with last November has just got married last week to her new boyfriend!! She's only 20!

I've been with my gf for 3.5 years, and we are not even thinking about getting married! We're fine how we are and would rather spend any money that we would on a wedding on holidays and other things!

We're still sorting our careers and want to get a bigger house also. I don't see myself getting married till I'm in my 30s to be honest.

Both are parents are divorced so we don't really rate marriage that highly tbh!

This is how I see it. Im only 21 so why rush lol. If after say 5 years we are still together and in love then it makes sense...

There's your answer Ryan.

People feel pressured into it the older they get not only by themselves but other people.

Me personally i'm contemplating kidding on i'm a poof so i can live the single high life until i'm an old cunt.

I've been with my GF 7 years next month and I've not thought of even getting married!

I'm 22 thats far to young IMO to be getting married!

Plus she's just finished Uni, sorting our careers, enjoying life, cars, before getting houses etc.
