I just rocked up there with some mates one weekend in the car and found a hostel to stay in while we were there. We went to see the Heineken factory, the red light district and the cafés. I'm sure there is lots more to see, but we were only there for a short time.

heineken factory
sex museum
live sex shows
red lights
cafe's

i never found a brothel as such, but the lanes are just like a large open air brothel anyway, so it makes no odds.

Its the only place ive ever have enjoyed window shopping. Asking a fit blonde "how much for anal" without getting slapped, and actually getting a price back is

Rubbish

Been there 7 years in a row and never had a single ounce of trouble, ever. Thats going in groups of blokes, couples, couple and blokes.

HIGHLY recommend getting a houseboat.

www.lovingamsterdam.com

is who we usually use, but theres a lot cheaper available, just expect what you pay for. I won't ever stay in a hostel again, bitten by bed bugs all f-ing night, and the bed fealt like it was moving. Horrible place. I'd rather pay more and have somewhere nice to stay.

Don't be put off by the sex show people the doors, they hurl abuse if you dont go in, just ignore them.

Never buy any "cocaine" from the black looky looky men. Just walk past, ignore them, they will leave you alone.

I can highly recommend quite a few coffee shops. There are some that sell crap gear, othes that sell great gear.

Must be your character

But still, i've never seen any trouble ever. Only those looking for trouble (which is actually any football fan )...

Seriously though, never seen anything at all, summer or winter.

If there's people there willing to punt you illegal drugs down back streets to make a quick buck then you can bet they'd be willing to steal your wallet should the opportunity arise.

That's common sense.

Recently there have been warnings that would lead me to believe that you can get yourself in trouble there if you aren't careful. But then it's the same in most cities.

yeh im far from the football fan out for trouble. it was just me and my mate, terribley stonned stumbeling around the rld, i was checking my phone, next thing i know there was a gang of kids (about 8 of them) 15-18 looking demanding my phone, i ran away like a little girl
they dident get anything

Yes agreed, be careful around the RLD, We had some tramp talking to us, when we didn't give us anything he told us to "watch we dont get stabbed". We also had 2 lads cause trouble with us, 5 of us which resulted in a scuffle, in which they kept getting flawed but still getting up and coming back for more (without +3 helping, daftest kids ever one of the lads they started on is a right unit.)

And a colleugue at the time has had a knife pulled on him in McD's and money taken off of him when he went a month or so later.

As Hammer said, with quite a few down and out crack heads about these things are more likely to happen.

pretty much what vxr said, although i would reccomend staying away from the rld after 2pm on your own otherwise you might get a knife pulled on you like i did down an alleyway only wide enough for 1 person lol.

i have been twice and stayed near vonel park and then in the alborg hotel right next to park 118(google it if your unsure)

its not all about staying 2 mins from dam square etc, amsterdam is a lovely city and where the 3rd and smallest red light district is some awsome cafes, also leidsplein(spelling) and i think it was remblatplein(again spelling) had good cafes, bars and clubs and atmosphere aswell.

also if you want the best smoke check out http://www.coffeeshop.freeuk.com

helped me find some ace coffee shops over there
