You'd get bummed tbh. Just get a lift/walk/bus/taxi.
Not worth the risk imo.

MOT or insurance. Tax last.

How far is your tax out? If its only a wee bit and you have the neccessary documents to tax it then if you get pulled just show your documents and i highly doubt youll get penalised.

Insurance would be invalid if the car wasn't taxed afaik so you still couldn't drive it there.

Precisely, you need insurance to tax a car so running one with no tax would invalidate the insurance.

read at the bottom...
Driving an untaxed vehicle to an MOT test
You can drive your vehicle to and from a pre-arranged test at an MOT test station provided you have adequate insurance cover in place for the use of that vehicle.
This also applies to vehicles being driven to and from a prearranged test at a Vehicle Inspection Check (VIC) test station, an approved weight testing station and reduced pollution test.

Normal insurance cover is normally void if the car is untaxed though is it not?

yes but there are clauses and exemptions, this being one of them (aslong as the same rules are followed in regards to pre-booked test)
If you drive to a pre-booked MOT with no Tax, your insurance will cover you.
If you pass your MOT, and drive it to buy tax, you won't be covered. You must either leave the car at the garage, tax it, then drive it, or get it towed back with full MOT and tax it another day.

Basic rule is that you should only drive it where you absolutely must. As the MOT is the only place where you physically need that vehicle present, that's the only place you can drive that vehicle.
Insure it, then drive it to the MOT place, then walk to the Post Office for tax.
