Is it a pretty poor job then? Work wise or pay wise?

Yeah I see what you mean, basic wages appear to be fairly grim in most cases also, just I had a chat with a guy at Arnold Clark VW about a job and reckon it could be rewarding I spose.

ok mate, your choice, you get 40 quid a car then 5 pound for vri's and add ons etc, with a target of 22-25 cars a month, if you dont do it after 3 month your sacked, and your constantly reminded of that!

I went into an Evans Halshaw and picked a new lads brain about his job. He said its commission based, hes on £8k basic, didnt go into details about his targets or commission per sale. He gets the use of a company car but has to pay for the fuel he uses (which nowadays would cut your earnings right if you drive it like you stole it).

He was also working 12 hour saturdays, 10 hours during the week and was also in on Sundays. If you are good at selling it might be good for you, but you need to be good to earn anything worth living on

they sound like phones4u.

All very well and good sacking people not making targets but with a customer facing role you will have no chance to develop customer relationships and have no friendly faces. Never good practice IMO. Also those type of threat tactics are usually from companies who are doing the worst compared to the opposition.

Car sales is basicaly glorified retail. Same principals apply. You work weekends pay isnt great. You will meet some of the nicest and most awful people in the world. Generaly treated with no respect and subject to abuse.

Mugs game tbh

8am-8pm 2 days 1 day off in the week chosen by the manager! and 8-6 saturday and 10-4 sunday!!

I know some people who have done OK from it. You need to be able to sell stuff. I certainly couldn't do it.

One of my mates is a sales manager and he works stupid hours, 6 days a week including both weekend days. He's a machine I swear, he drives some lovely motors and earns upwards of 50k but I couldn't be fucked with the hours/days!

yeh thats fair enough one guy who i worked with earned 6500 quid take home pay in one month, but the hours stress and commitment involved was too much, you can guarantee nearly everybody in car sales is either single/divorced or onto a second-third etc marriage. i even got told by my manager to get rid of our lass coz i would never see her anyway!!

There's a company we do IT support for and the staff there do really well from sales. Seen the figures today and someone actually cleared 3k in a month. Great if you can do it!

They sell magazine space.

Bloke down the stairs from me worked for Audi, he very rarely got any time off at the weekends. Even when on holiday he sometimes had to be available to close deals etc. He seemed to bring in a decent wage, though never talked figures. Always had a new Audi outside, usually an A3/4 E but now & then had a TT or RS4 etc

I think youd need to be really comitted to being a car salesman. Dont think I could do it.
