Hard to say what damage its had, but it wasnt structural damage, and wasnt damaged badly enough to need checking over to make sure it was road legal. Also it wont state on the log book that its cat D.

Cat D is just cosmetic damage, which could sometimes just be cracks in bumpers, dented wings etc which cost a lot to be repaired and sprayed by an insurance approved dealer

Could have had anything unfortunately. It also depends on the age of the car at the time. For instance, on a brand new car, it could be substantial damage, but less than half the value of the car to repair it. On a 10 year old car, it could be just a door and wing. Personally, i'd avoid it.

Not going to write off a 53 plate car for just a wing are they.

2 things, it could have been written off cause the damage was more than 60% of the value of the car.

Or it could have been written off when it was 2 month old and they chose not to repair it cause it was so new.

My mate just bought a 54 plate Clio 182 Cup, needed front and back bumper, and front panel and back panel and bonnet, that was all, bought that for 3.4k, with 12k miles.

Could have had the wheels nicked and keyed down one side. Cars get written off for minor things these days. My have never been in an accident at all.

Remember its harder to sell on when the times comes. What may seem like a good deal today may come to bite you in the future.

Yes they would, ive seen a focus written off because the back window was smashed and the front bumper was cracked and that was on a 53 plate.

Just to put it in perspective. This wasn't written off.

So the car you're looking at could be as worse, if not worse or better than that when it had the accident etc

EDIT: Wait, I didn't make my point my point is that is pretty severe damage. Bumper, bonnet, wing, slam panel, radiator, yet it wasn't written off. So when someone does a HPi check on my car, they think "oooh, lovely, no accident damage." Ermmm Cat D doesn't necessarily mean a lot.

It's not so much the damage its had, its the fact that it has had a recorded crash and that lowers the value of it when you sell on.

^^ Probably had a bent boot floor. I highly doubt they would write off a 52 plate car for a scratched bumper.
