I've been lookin at them recently and noticed that there pretty affordable now with some very nice examples for sale around the £9k mark.
I know that someone on here has one but I cant remember if its the turbo version they have
The 2.2 version tho is only 145bhp which I was very suprised at but they seem quick with the 0-60 times of 5.6secs in standard trim
Anyone had a go in one of these and what do yous think of them???
Im only interested in the 2.2 version as the turbo ones are still a bit pricey
Its for the wife BTW

I am also looking at these.
Does the 2.2 get boring and would I crave the turbo?

Chris_UK has one off here...
you have to remember the low 0-60 will be partially due to light weight + rear wheel drive for optimal traction on launching.
(I don't want to mention my car) but my gti would pull past a standard VX220 N/A when moving (say like 3rd gear past).
It'll be fairly quick, but don't expect it to be amazingly quick. i.e. you're Leon Cupra 225 should be quicker once moving.
The VX220 Turbo on the other hand is 190 bhp and there's tuning opportunities there.
I think the VX220 N/A will be fine for your wife though, will be plenty quick enough.

afaik the turbo is 55bhp more so its a pretty big hike in power but the insurance jumps up hugely as well, as does the price of the car lol
It looks like theres a £3k-5k price on top of a 2.2 version

Only proof I have
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=DhUUs2ElRqc&fmt=18
23 seconds in.
(he was going as quick as he could too! As he was still trying to race me into the next bend bastard). (crap vid tho - I have the full vid somewhere for the whole pass, but was like 4th gear pull past)... not hard to believe, my car is lighter than a vx220 and has more power.
A standard Gti / Vts would probably only be similar, but I know eck has had them before which is why I pointed out it won't be a huge difference in speed with the vx220 n/a

Seriously though, get her to drive one before writing it off cos some people on the internet say its not as fast as blah de blah etc. These cars arnt about straight lines at all! When i first drove mine down the dual carrigeway near the dealership with the salesman i was initially a little dissapointed as i expected it to blow my socks off, but then we got to a round about and then down a section of derestricted b-road and i loved it!

Yeah I agree, at least wait for Chris_UK's comments too as his VX220 is actually a N/A but afaik he's fairly happy with it.
I'm not saying the VX220 is slow, I'm just saying don't be expecting it to go like a rocket (especially when you look at figures like 0-60 in 5.6 secs and think it'll keep pulling like that all the way).
I want a VX220 Turbo

You dont buy a VX for straight line speed, they are more about handling for me!
Dont think they can be compared to a hot hatch at all.
Drive one Id say!

Remember the 220 isn't all about straight line speed. I would say it would piss all over a lot of cars when it comes to cornering.
Make sure she is ok falling in and out of the thing too

Watch out, John's got his official stats out
FFS Why does anyone have to get into a massive debate whenever anyone mentions a 106 gti
I was merely pointing out, his misses 'ex 106 gti' which had breathing mods, wouldn't be particularly slower than the vx220.
He's welcome to still get a vx220 and test drive one to see what he thinks, but since he was quoting 0-60 in 5.5 secs he may of been disapointed.
There's no need for this 'vx220 will trounce a hatch back' posts... no one is saying it wouldn't.
eck to be honest mate, as VXR said go look at VX220 club (although they may be biased anyway) - Trying to get 'opinions' on cars from a club full of people who have never driven one or have experience of them on road or track is going to be pretty useless... i.e. as useful as John's post above

Because your measure of how fast something is is whether you happened to have passed one on the nurburgring or not, and you 'know he is trying'.
The figures say that its faster and it'll beat you in the corners as well.
AND, the most important point to me, it's not an old french bean can.

You clearly are a bit retarded mate. No where in this post have I said a vx220 is slow or not fast.
Eck has owned a 106 gti and a vts.
His misses wants something 'considerably' faster.
I've just pointed out the reality that there won't be much in it (despite your official stats). In my opinion this is more helpful for him 'asking for opinions' - than your official stats.
I'm not telling him to get a 106 gti instead
I'm telling him to get the VX 220 Turbo
