Right a bit of an essay here but stick with it.
At the start of June i backed into someone in the carpark opposite work. I went into the place where it was and handed over my details as you do and then left. As i was on my way home from work the owner of the Izuzu said to me instead of going through insurance he would get the job done and then bill me.
The damage to his car was no more than a suff to the plastic bumper. He said that he would just get ti blown in and then i would pay him back. Any way 2 weeks went passed he hadn't done anything so i thought he must of forgot. Then i saw the car and the damage was painted he came over and said it cost £200 for the work.
I said right fine not a problem i would have to pay him at the end of the month and that could i have a receipt. I at the end of july moved jobs and so didn't work up there. He kept asking my friend who works there have i got the money. Bear in mind he has all my details so why couldn't he come to my house.
Anyway am i in the wrong for not paying him untill i get a receipt. He said he was doing me a favour, i don't see where??
Discuss.

You don't have to pay shit!. You were entitled to ask for a range of quotes before you decided if you would pay up or go through the insurance. Don't be bullied into paying up. See if the work done really was around the £200 mark. Garages love these kind of jobs and will stick a few extra quid on in favour of the customer. I've seen a few receipts written out for more than what was carried out.

Surely he would be doing me a favour if i asked him to.
I ain't gonna be bullied into paying anything. I have said as soon as i see a PRINTED receipt i'll pay i have no objection. But the work thats been done can't justify £200. It was the corner of the bumper blown in.
He said to the lad that works where i used to if i want a receipt then it will be £200 plus VAT. How the fuck does that work??

£200 for a scuff ?
cost me £70 to get my bumper painted !
you have fair point about seeing the repair receipt at same time you hand the monies over! i dont see why he should have a problem if hes honest.
it dosnt add up - he is clearly having you on

The place he used probably done it off the books or by an employee in spare time etc.. If they log it as work and produce a receipt, it will be liable to VAT etc... If you don't think the work was worth £200 refuse it and get a few quotes yourself. If they don't tally then get your insurance involved. He is in just as much shit for not informing his own insurance about the accident. Don't get me wrong, i'd pay up and admit fault if I smacked someones car but I wouldn't be letting them get on with it to pull a fast one with the prices.

Refuse to pay until he shows you a copy of the receipt, and when he gives you a copy ring and check with the place he got it from so he hasnt changed it.

I'd just pay up. He won't have a receipt, just as you wouldn't unless you went to the dealer or something.
You've avoided the insurance and I'm sure £200 is better to you than increased premiums, loss of ncb etc.
He will have added a few quid on, but regardless of that, you'd be really pissed off yourself if you'd paid £x to repair and are still to get the money back from the other party who caused the damage.

He's doing you a big favour, it would cost much more than 200 quid on your end if you went through the insurance.

Means shit though, if the guy has had work done, no matter where it was, he'd have a receipt.
If he hasnt then get the number of the place he had it done and get the amount off them.

The guy is obviously trying to pull one over you - dont pay him for that reason until you get the receipt and have checked it.

I find it strange that the Izuzu owners asked to do it so quickly without going through the insurance. I've seen this before in work and it turned out the other party didn't even have insurance but panicked in case the guy who did admit fault at the time wanted to use it. I still wouldn't cough up on his say so it was £200.

It's possibly cash in hand or a little independant fella that's done it. He won't give him a receipt.
Why the stance of no receipt, no payment? He's out of pocket for damage someone else caused.

If I was offering him it for 200 quid and he was getting arsey i'd just phone the insurance up about it instead.
Because you got a scuff fixed for 70 quid somewhere doesn't mean he did.
I'd be going where i wanted if somebody else was paying.

As the damage obviously didnt cost £200 to fix or he'd happily produce a receipt.
Just because he saved him going through insurance doesnt mean he has the right to screw you out of more money than it cost.

The scuff on the bumper blown in to match the rest of the bumper.

There are obviously totally different schools of thought here.
I'd happily pay a couple of hundred quid to keep my record clean whether it cost that or not.
Could easily cost 200 quid to spray a while bumper btw.

You wouldn't though because if it was me I'd at least like to see a couple of quotes to see what it would cost on average. Not letting you take it your 'mate' to inflate the price. I'd rather go through the insurance than get stitched up. Then again a claim like that wouldn't do much for my premiums. Not so sure when I was younger
