I got a Boss one for £400. I don't wear it much through fear of losing it and/or ruining it.

I must think differently to you
I assumed "nothing stupidly priced" ment £500 tops
I must be cheap
Although I am happy with my £60 watch as I have a habit of losing stuff etc

I thought stupidly priced would be something over £250.

I was going to reply to this the other day, but didn't get around to it
To me £1k-1.5k is a really nasty area for watches, for that sort of price you will get something 'nice' but not niche....a bit like a Boxster but not a 911 if that makes sense.
If you need to (dont think you do) save a bit more and look at something £2k+ like these:-
http://www.blowers-jewellers.co.uk/panerai.htm
If not save your money and go for something about the £500 mark.
