My mum (43) divorced my dad last year and got her own house now with my lil sis (12) living with her.
Now she started seeing some bloke (30) early Jan of this year who has basically moved in.
He reckons he has a Job and use of company car. Also reckons he is in the process of buying a flat and owns a pub nearby.
Now I've heard from mates that he is a total bull shitter, and basically is kind enough but talks out of his arse. He seems a kind enough person.
Done a bit of checking:
A) I checked on rightmove and the EA site fopr the flat he reckons he has had his offer accepted on, and its not even listed.
B) The day he was going to pick me and the gf up from the airport his work car is conveniently being used by someone else, so he uses my mums car instead.
C) I was up the other morning at 7am and I see him walking in the total different direction to the train and bus stop (like 1 mile away) He was supposdely on his way to work
D) the Mrs had the other day off and saw him walking back to my mums at around 10.30am on a weekday
E) He never has any money, and has been borrowing from my mum. My mum always buys the food and drinks etc.
He told me the firm he works for and I know the estate agent. Should I call his bluff and try and find out if he actually is even buying a flat and has a job?!
Basically I don't want me mum to be screwed over by some gold digger

I wouldnt go the whole way and find out about the flat, etc. as that will make it clear you have been looking into him and might push your mum away.
I'd find out for certain about the job though and bring that up, as you could make it out like you found out accidentally.
Dont let it go though, def mention it.

Very difficult situation there.
Maybe do some double checking and if it turns out that he is lying confront him about it. Not your Mum. Tell him he needs to sort his act out and treat her right otherwise you will let her know whats going on.
BUT be aware that your Mum may already be fully aware of whats happening and is ignoring it beacuse she is happy. Its a difficult thing to get involved in!

Can't see it pushing his mum away if he checks up on him. Go for it. All the current info points to him being a bullshitter.

Thing is I've already mentioned that I couldn't see the flat in the paper to her (innocently looking)
My Girlfriend isn't exactly suttle though and said to her 'has he actually got a job?'
Difficult situation as she is happy, but how long before the cash runs out and she starts racking up credit?
Bit annoying really. Might have a word with my uncle. Can't really mention it to my dad as he would ick this guy's head in!

She might know already, and not be bothered. If she has fallen for him bullshit and Alex goes and confronts him making it known he has been checking on him then they could both get defensive and it'll kick up a loan of shite.

Something bound to be high security and difficult to get information about then - handy that.....
