Probly a stupid question but would an insurance company void my insurance for changing from the standard V grille to the LMF / Irmscher one for my Astra?

Stolen from SteveX16XE's garage

No, it won't HOWEVER all insurance companies are different.
I had a crash, front end, so they obviously saw everything, with Depo's and debadged grill. They paid out etc and nothing came of it. When I went to pick it up after the repair, the guy at the garage actually took me into the workshop and showed me the bits that were broken etc
My car was repaired with standard headlights and a standard V-grill. If you did declare them, and you crashed, they might replace with an Irmy grill etc

It was Deano's fault
And Deano, how they're replaced all depends on the policy, most just replace with original equipment although some do like for like cover

If my insurance company asked "Has the car been modified from manufacturers specification" I'd say yes. In the end, is it worth the risk of them declaring it void?

Thing is, an Irmscher grille is a factory item- just like a spoiler or alloys on some models or the XP pack on the new astra's for instance.
It's a grey area IMO

It's only a cosmetic change and doesn't affect the car's running in any way, a bit like putting different side repeaters on or something. I haven't told them about mine as I don't think I'd need to. I'm only doing stuff to this car I don't need to phone up about so that I don't have to fork out more for insurance seeing as it's enough as it is.

I'm only keeping this one for a year so not much point doing much to it either, plus I need to save up for my next one.
Do you have to tell the insurance about tints? I keep toying with the idea but if you have to tell them I won't bother.

I used to have an Astra that worked like that one many many years ago
I even remember when and why i took that pic.
My insurance policy at the time only asked about mods done to the car to increase performance including brakes. Due to me not doing them things at the time, my answer was no, it is not modified.

I have purely because are part of the car's security so in theory it should bring the cost of insurance down. In reality it probably adds a bit
I also have some ICE in my car but it has cost less than £300 so they don't need to know unleess it's worth a grand or more (according to them)

Thanks for all these views. Did the Astra in question (SXi) come with smoked side repeaters? Cos mine has these also, works the same way as the grille IMO - bought it like that, looks standard to me

If you ask they arnt gonna see the chance to charge you more and say err nahhhhh its ok we wont
their gonna say yes, that will be x amount more please
maybe im that type of person that could sleep at night with it on my mind, it would probably be smashed to peices in a crash anyway

My friends have plans of whipping their springs off if they ever have a crash....

At the end of the day, a genuine Vauxhall V-grill new is more expensive than a shitty plastic thing of eBay. It was their loss.
I'm the biggest worrier in the world, and haven't declared my grill or lights. Mainly, because the Endsleigh modification list this year didn't say headlights, or grills. It did say light clusters. However type on eBay 'light clusters' and no front lights are returned in the search results.

and me. I couldn't drive my car. And the repair garage had it in their possession within 1 hour of crashing.

Yeah mate as far as I know clusters are only rear lights so you should be alright there.
When I was in the crash in my mates car, he had different bumpers on, they were still Ford ones (it was a Fiesta Mk3) but they were black as opposed to maroon so were really obviously not standard, but the insurance said nothing. Maybe because it was written off they weren't bothered about having to replace it, I dunno.
It was straight down the garage afterwards as well, when I left there was a whatsit truck thing coming to pick it up.
Oh yeah, seeing as we're on insurance, would you need to tell the company if you put alloys on instead of steelies, if they were Vaux ones? I'm wondering whether to get some or not but as with the tints, I won't bother if I have to tell them haha.

My insurance is only £22.40 a month anyways, so really wouldnt feel a hardship if they were to add an extra 50p a month on top
