BMW GINA Concept

Interesting idea for the future, love the animalistic feel it has with the blinking eyes, even if it is a touch gimmicky.

Glad I don't have to work with Bangle though, I'm sure I'd have to hit him at some point.

Would have been good to collaborate on this one, coulda called it the BMW VAG-GINA.

So its a car with a spandex jump suit on

Ive decided car designers are pretty like rock stars, paid way too much & evidently get free drugs!

"GINA is an acronym, set of letters that stand for Geometry and Function, N Adaptations."

GFNA?

Context over Dogma. I'm clear now.

Exactly, you couldn't be in a room with that guy and not want to injure him.

Looks like an interesting idea, moving away from metal as a car body, but I would still want to hurt that guy I don't think anybody would be able to get to the end of a tour with him without beating him in some way

Spot on, Ian, GINA makes no sense maybe instead of making an I out of nowhere they should have thought of a better acronym that doesn't involve random letters coming from nowhere.

Typical American obsession with acronyms.

In case anyone doesn't know, he's the one responsible for the current BMW "flame surfacing" designs. Not a tour guide.

An interesting concept. The ability to be able to change the shapes of body panels while the car is in motion like that could do wonders for aerodynamics.

Thank god for ed understanding the reason it's a good idea.

Note the spolier raising, no shutlines to cause drag etc.

Hence why i'm a designer

People also have to understand that technology like this is many years off, and by the time it's on the market it will have been refined. If it wasn't for ideas that seem crazy or too expensive I wouldn't be browsing the internet on a 22" LCD screen on a computer which might have been classed as a super computer 15 years ago.

its a fantastic step and id love to know more about the engineering of how the fabric moves in such ways!
i had to watch the video a few times as i couldnt believe parts of it!
great concept and probably one of the most interesting for years, no company has really divulged into materials in such a way before.
future looks interesting at BMW!

Spaceframe as used on the Z8 ant, with a series of carbon ribs to define lines. Have a look at the write up on http://www.cardesignnews.com

My personal favourite bit is the bonnet opening over the engine, and how it seems to develop ribs as it does so.

It looks more evolved than a Z4, so its way past the design of a Z3.
