just got a golf and is a real nice car so comfy ( after just owning a corsa and a 106)

Golf will be a good option.

306 dturbo is not what I expected people to say...Its french..

A golf for £1000 im guessing would not be too great ?
for 1k a golf would be like N or P reg 1.4 and there not powerful at all.
Vw 1.4 were like 60hp

I also have a grand to spend and think ill go for a 1.4 sport or even a nice low miles 1.2 16v.

No offence buy you dont even have a licence, best to get a total shitter for a 1st car, something £500 like an L reg sri ect.

Could get an ok 1.4 sport for £1000 maybe a v reg if your lucky.

"17", "quick", "good on insurance" do not go together.

Just get a Corsa 1.2 SXi or something till you build up some NCD.

1.2 16v Corsa is plenty quick enough for a 17 year old that hasn't/has only just passed.

Don't run before you can walk.

Wether you've just passed or not, You shouldnt be looking at quick cars.

They teach you how to drive at a standard to pass your test, They dont teach you how to drive properly.

Basically, Buy a chinky-chento

You won't get a TDi for £1k and under, and insurance will be steepish for a 17 yr old, because of the size of the engine. I have a mate with a 1.8 TD Escort after his little crash in his Corsa(only car involved), but he was paying £2k insurance at the age of 18!!!

That's where you are wrong. He taught you how to pass your test. Learning to drive takes years.

How that is expensive, I was paying £1295 for a 1.4 SRi Corsa, and now £1061 on a 1.2 8v Corsa with an accident.

Have you tried confused.com, as i'm with Endsleigh, and I found them on there, plus with them my sound system is covered for if it gets stolen, and all mods are declared without any rise on insurance, they are brilliant.

Mate, we're not trying to sound harsh here...But really, settling for a decent Corsa/Saxo won't be a bad thing. You'll save a hell of a lot on insurance, and is that wee bit extra poke worth it? We're not all knowing people, but from experience, young drivers tend to think they are Ayrton Senna when they first pass, and that's when you're at your most vulnerable.

I'm agreeing with Eck, the amount of street racing and almost crashes when I had the Sri was just after I past my test, and I really learnt my lesson when I saw a crash, also spun my car and blew its engine up, now i'm driving in a 1.2 8v, I had a accident in it and lost my no claims, but the crash was in a car park, and I drive carefullyish now so I can build up my ncb so I can get a quicker car when I turn 21.

Honestly, After i bought my 1.6 Megane as my first car the novelty of wooping all my mates soon wore off after they were driving about a few hours after my fuel ran out.

Your first car will do silly ammount of miles, The cheaper the fuel the better and the better the mpg the better. You dont need a fast car as you just end up going the most random drives ever and dont care about racing.
