In my opinion, the government are pricks. The tax on fuel should be a fixed amount, not a PERCENTAGE.
The result is, the more it climbs the more their cut becomes. The reason the price goes up or down is due to the costs from the fuel suppliers etc, however the fact the tax is a % and not a fixed amount makes this rise greater than it should

Spot on mate, we would all be happier motorists then. I doubt it would have gotten to over a quid if it was fixed.

We should do what the french do, throw car tax in with fuel prices and keep it at a set price.

Exactly!!!! Thats the only thing that annoys me!!
Of the 35p/l diesels went up in the last year 23p/l comes directly from the governments % cut. The cost of fuels actually only went up 12p/l !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The government are broke though.
Also, with oil at $135 a drum it doesn't help. It's meant to be $85 but people on the markets have got greedy and have caused the price hike.

Cos of refining & lack of supply has cost the price hike!!

Why cant the government just say, ok crudes risen 20% over the last 18 months, this is going to cause a knock on effect where we'll see 12p rise on a liter at the pumps(before duy/tax). We'll freeze duty at what it is, a set figure, then review it in 6 or 12 months. Rather than just collecting several billion pounds their not due!! Absolute fuckers!! I hate Gordon Brown, smug fuck says, fuel hikes nothing to do with me its the oil companies doings......like fuck!! Do you honestly think were stupid....I know our education systems on its knees but I can count & the equation does not balance!!! 65% of the increase is the governments fault & their not due it!!
I think we should reclaim the streets, army's away on tour in iraq anyway....lets take power!!

Seeing that makes me
why is it we pay 57p duty in comparison to Germany paying 37p I reckon it will be £1.50 (for petrol) by the end of this year

Yes.
I remember that my dad had to pick me up from college coz the busses didn't run and he didn't bother going to work. At 5pm (rush hour) the roads were empty. I was quite funny.

That's what I thought
Veg oil probably is the cheapest way of running a car these days. Plus you smell of chips
You should be able to get free oil from a local fast food place for free, all you have to do then is put it through a filter to get the bits out then a couple of ml kerosene, and you're away.
Don't veg oil cars get cheaper tax or don't have to pay or something as well?
