Will you be on their payroll or self employed/payed per car?

Its ok if your getting payed per car, the worst thing about that is you have to put the work in to get decent cash and sometimes it can be really tiring where as on a set wage your guarenteed that amount every week. When i was a valater at vauxhall i was on a decent wage, nothing special but it got me by.I later moved on to working on my own and the money was far better, had to work hard to get it though.

Well you will have to buy all your products wont you, which isnt cheap.Say you charge 40-50 for a full valet, they make take 10-15 per car..all depends really.

Dont work for a main dealer, horrible places to work. Thats where i first started out valeting. And in these payed by the car jobs with dealers they will usually only use you while they are busy, i.e new registrations. Then when there quite will leave you with nothing.
Wages when you first start valeting are awfull, i was on around 5.5-6 pound a hour. But if your good you can work your way up to a pretty decent wage. I know work for a prestige garage theat sell only 20k+ cars, on 11.50 a hour. Which is pretty much as good as a company employed valater will get. To get to that stage though you need a lot of references and really need a good name around your area.

My mate done this for a while,
he said its not worth it tbh, once youve paid the tax/vat and over heads etc.
And it can take up to 5hours plus to do a decent job on one car.
My mate does it as a sideline now but cash in hand.
Tax/vat takes most of your hard earned.

5 hours is abit long, if that was the case you wouldn't earn much. You can do a good job on a car in 2 1/2 - 3 hours if you know what you're doing.

My uncle is the head guy at Pheonix Honda in Edinburgh and he's on good money, but he's the top guy. He told me to stay away from it as its not a big thing that needs done alot.
IMO i wouldnt go for it, When its quiet, your fucked. If you enjoy cars then get into selling them for Arnold Clark, Shite company but they put you through your training and get you experience then move onto a better company.
I used to sell cars for Evans Halshaw BMW, and was walking away with no less than £1900 a month, during the summer or sales you can earn £3k depending on how much you sell. Plus i got to take any car that was a demo home at night.

Quite hard to get into sales really, well all depends on qualifications etc. Iv not really got any, and been trying to get into sales for a while. Luckily got a opportunity now, as one of the salesman at my work go away to auction on Tuesday and Thursday and i take over from him. Starting to learn all about it and get some experiance before trying to find something permanent.
