One of our site fixers who does about 700 miles a week had 3 points on his license.
Today at work, 3 envolopes turned up for him - he got caught speeding THREE times in one week - all average speed cameras and now he's banned.
It seems like a lot of people think they can play these average speed cameras, I just don't see the point in trying to squeeze the extra 5mph out of your motor when you could just wait til you're out of the camera zone if your gonna speed at all.
What a tosser is all I have to say, if you're gonna speed, don't do it by trying to rip that extra 5mph out of your motor thinking its gonna save you time coz it dont.

If they dont like the UK's average speed cameras....
Agreed though, I dont know why people risk it on those things, may aswell keep it below during it and then make up for it on the rest of the trip.

I just see it so many times, if i'm sitting there at 50mph say (There's a stretch near me on the M69 with 50mph Av. speed cameras) there's ALWAYS people sitting there at 60mph and you just look at them and think WTF are you trying to prove!?

He would definitly have been rushing, again, trying to get those extra few mph's towards the risk zone.

They're trying to prove that 60mph in a good car when you're awake is safer than 50mph in a car with poor brakes and a tired driver but the latter won't get done for anything.

To be fair mate, it sounds like you don't ever go near average speed cameras.
Basically I used to go up and down m1 often when there was a whole load there, and now there's a whole load on the m4 which i have to go through everytime i go to or from home...
No road works, just cones at the side of the road... also no work men... but yes plenty of spec average speed cameras and a 50 limit... for .... miles and miles...
Just seems pointless even having the camera's there imo. I can understand it when there are 'road works' taking place. End of the day, he / I have a place to be, and I don't enjoy slowing down from 80-85 to sit at 45-50 for 4 miles when there's no road works.
Tell your colleague to change lanes inbetween each camera tho that'll allow him to speed if he insists on doing it.
Thing is, I find i watch my speedo more than the road through those 'average speed camera' sections, so doubt it's going to prevent an accident any more than normal flow...

Watching your speedo is more dangerous than watching your speed.

since when?
I thought you had to stay in the same lane due to it being solely tested on one lane?
I'm fairly sure I've sped in the past and just changed lanes after each camera and never got a letter

No reason why it should fool it. The list of registration plates date stamps only needs writing to one database, then you look up the reg again on the second write and there's your time difference. What lane you were in when the writes occurred is largely irreverent.
The only reason the system would be fooled is if there were a separate database for each lane, which perhaps is what they did when it was first in trials but a production system really wouldn't overlook something so simple.
Although I supposed they were commissioned by idiots so they may as well be programmed by the same.

I see your point, but its the fact there are workmen in the road that they are trying to protect, and still, 50mph in a good car when your awake is still better than 60mph in the same vehicle.

Thats totally true about 'useless' speed cameras monitoring average speed in uneccessary places - but the ones that I go through every week are there to protect the workmen specifically, thats why I object to speeding in that one area.
As for my collegue - he's banned now anyway, bit late to tell him

I think it's less a technical reason and more a 'legal' reason that it was only tested / certified and approved as working on a single lane test example.
Therefore if people moved across lanes - it couldn't be deemed as accurate due to never being tested and approved for that application and use.
I guess they rectified it though since
