I hadn't seen it but I seen elsewhere they were looking for people aye
Sounds like it could possibly be quite interesting, or possibly really boring.

I think it would be a good job.
Your part of the decision on where that big fucking plane with all those people on it is going to land, How it will land, where it will land and if its ok to land....Give me a walkie talkie and i'll be there for days. Awesome.
Fuck working with those pricks from chewin' the fat though, You'll fuck a few lives up.

80% of the ATC's sit in an office, scottish one is in prestwick, very few are actually based at airports, at the airport I think would be good but not so sure about being stuck in an office looking at a radar screen.

Old man used to do it in his younger days (so about 30 years ago) and he said it was pretty stressful, hence why he jacked it in after a few years. I can only assume it's a complete c*nt of a job now What's the pay like?

The pay is very good. I looked into it myself.
I don't think I could hack the stress and the responsibility though.

Apparently it's extremely stressful, and you do about 2 hours solid before having a break.
I wanted to do it when I was younger.

I think i'll pass with the raf tbh, the path to it just now looks easy enough because they are actively looking for people.
I think london airports you're on 85k before long.

Shifts i've seen mentioned so far are 2 mornings, 2 afternoons, then 2 days or 2 nights, 4 off, sounds good to me.

look a the NATS website
the ATCO (Air Traffic Controller Officers) at the Airport, in the tower, are controlling ground ops only
TO, Landing and Air movements through airspace are all dealt with by "central" hubs based away from Airports, West Drayton, Preswick Manchester and possibly Brum as well. i applied last July and will try again soon (12months after failed application minimum)
you train for 12months on £10k then move onto "on the job" training gaining your "ticket" (certificate) and then left to it. The tasks are split three ways, those looking after approach and TO, those dealing with transist (aircraft moving through airspace) and those on the ground if iirc
Work is 6 days on (2 each on early/day/nights) then four days off with ~25days holiday, in that shirt works out having an extra 30 days or so off
disadvantage: hard to get time off unless booked well in advance, no alcohol 12hours prior to work, stress
advantage: great pay from the start, with the oppertunity to become a team lader if you so wish
application process is quite tough (although i might say that given i failed!) a 3/4 hours of test papers testing maths and mental ability with shape and space/3D problems etc
this then leads onto a interview and then onto the college in Bournemouth (with the NATS process)
